In a short pause between client calls, Marc was thinking about Jocelyn. She was just perfect. She was a slightly cheeky, beautiful young submissive woman. He couldn't have picked a more perfect mate if he had ordered her out of a catalogue. Was she perhaps a little too perfect?
Once the thought popped into his head, he couldn't get rid of it again. Golem Tech, a client of his, had recently had problems with a spy working for them. Could she a spy? No, it wasn't possible. She just isn't the type. Marc was usually a pretty good judge of character – he had to be in his line of work – and he was certain that Jocelyn would not knowingly do him any harm at all. But it was worrying that she knew almost nothing about her employer. Could Jocelyn be being used as an unwitting pawn?
+ + +
That evening at dinner, Marc broached the topic of Jocelyn's employer with Jocelyn.
"Jocelyn. You said that you did not know anything about your employer. Have you been told anything that might give a hint as to who it is?
Jocelyn thought for a moment. "No. I don't think so. Is there any particular reason for asking Sir?"
"Yes, actually there is. I find it more than a little odd that someone would pay for you to work for me for a year. That person obviously knows me very well to have been able to pick you out for me. You and I obviously fit well together. I am not a very sociable person outside of my work and yet someone picked you out knowing, correctly, that I would enjoy having you here. I find it a little disturbing that someone knew me well enough to do that and I do not know who they are or why they are doing it."
"I understand Sir. I am sorry, but I have no idea who paid for me to work for you. I found it a little odd myself when I went to the interview. Claire from We Also Walk Dogs said the person paying the bill had requested to remain anonymous. She had said that the employer only had your best interests at heart. She said 'it was a lovely gesture' from the third party. When I asked to know a little more Claire said that she had already said too much and that she didn't want to lose the client. It left me quite curious as to what was going on. On my way over here, I was thinking about it. My expectation was that you were a proud old man who would not accept help from family. I got quite a surprise when you opened the door" Jocelyn smiled at the memory of Marc opening the door, still half asleep in just a pair of jeans. "It was quite clear that you were not someone who needed taking care of because you were not physically fit."
"Curiouser and curiouser... I'll see if I can get some kind of background check on We Also Walk Dogs. Are they really called that?"
"Yes" laughed Jocelyn. "Claire told me that when she was founding the company, her husband told her about a science fiction story about a company that provided any service that you could possibly want. I asked if they really did walk dogs. She just laughed and said no-one had asked for a dog-handler yet, but that she was sure that she would be able find one if someone wanted one."
Marc chuckled. "I remember reading the story myself as a kid. It was by Robert Heinlein I think. Still, it is a perfect name for an employment agency with a sense of humor. I'll contact Greg and see what he can find out for me."

Hi!
This chapter is very short. Sorry about that, but it is necessary for the story. I will definitely make it up to you in the next chapter. I didn't want to mix the action there with this part.
Oh yes. The story "We also walk dogs" really was written by Robert Heinlein. In his story, the company provides any service that a person could possibly want – for a price. The name just popped into my head when I was thinking of an Agency for Jocelyn to be working for... ;-)
