Marc felt buoyant as he drove home. It felt really good to have finally closed the chapter on Abigail completely. Abigail had clearly left the door open to friendship and he would take her up on that, but right now he just wanted to get back to his Jocelyn and tell her all the good news.

Marc opened the door of the house and called for Jocelyn. Silence answered him. Is she still in her room, upset? Marc bounded up the stairs and rapped smartly on Jocelyn's door. "Jocelyn." There was no answer. He gently pushed the door open and the room was empty. All of Jocelyn's stuff was gone. Marc's eyes opened wide in panic and he ran back down the stairs. His eyes scanned the rooms quickly and he soon found an envelope left propped up at his place on the table. No Jocelyn, you are not doing this to me! He ripped open the envelope. There was a short note inside:

My dearest Sir,

Serving you has been the best time of my life. I have cooked and cleaned for you, but you have awakened my body in ways that no man has ever done before. You have given my life direction. I now know what I always wanted in my life, but never knew how to ask for: a man to master me, own me, and possess me.

I love you. I had believed that you were falling in love with me as well. But then you found Abigail again. I cannot stay in this house knowing that you will go back to her. The thought of watching the two of you fall in love again is more than I can bear.

So now I find that having a man to master me is not enough. I want that man to love me as well. I doubt that I will find a man like you again, but no-one can take away the time that we had together.

I hope that you will be happy when you are together with Abigail again. I know how much she meant to you.

Love

Your maid,

Jocelyn

"Damn!" Marc spat the word out with feeling. How can I find her? She must have left right after I did. Where would she go? Who would know? Claire!

Marc called directory enquiries to see if Claire Harris was listed. But there was no listing for Claire Harris. The assistant on the phone asked if he knew her husband's name, perhaps the entry was under that name...? Marc looked up the website of We Also Walk Dogs and found that the company was registered in the names of Claire and Gregory Harris. Bingo! He called directory enquiries again and they gave him the number for Gregory Harris.

Marc called the Harris's.

"Hallo. Do you know what time it is...?"

"Hello Mr. Harris, my apologies for calling at this late hour but it is urgent. Is Claire Harris there?"

"Yeah, one moment please."

Marc waited impatiently while the phone was handed over to Claire.

"Hello. Who is this?"

"Hello Claire, this is Marc Templeton. The man Jocelyn was working for. She has run off and left me and now I need to find her."

"What? Why? That doesn't sound like Jocelyn at all"

Marc filled her in on what had happened since they last met. How Jocelyn had been so upset that he was meeting Abigail and that she had left while he was out. Once he was done, Claire mumbled "You told her she was being silly and then left without talking to her first. Sometimes men are so stupid it is unbelievable." Marc felt sheepish. In a clearer voice Claire continued "I'm sorry but I don't know where she would have gone. She will have to contact me eventually to let me know that she is no longer working for us. I will talk to her then and let her know that you have no intention of going back to Abigail. I can't see anything else that I can do right now."
