News comes fast. Quickly. There are ten words that can break your heart, your life, your relationship.
Alisha, I'm sorry. Your mother passed away in the night.
The words that broke my life. Changed my life. I looked up to see Luke chasing after Michael on a scooter followed by Ashton. A small smile passed as cross my lips as I watched them go. Christian was probably somewhere annoying Adam to hell about guitar things and Holden and Isaac were messing with the makeup trying to figure out what girls used it for. Calum and I however, weren't up for anything of that sort.
I was on my phone playing bubble blast and sometimes I made weird faces while playing it. That was a habit of mine but since no one was around, I doubted they were watching.
He was spinning in his make-up chair on his phone texting someone or that's what I thought until I began receiving twitter notifications.
@Calum5sos: @SilenceisLove "I'm so much cooler than Luke right now"
Underneath was a picture of me making a face. I looked up at him and he continued tweeting innocently so I decided to tweet something of my own.
@Silenceislove: @Luke5sos The Bassist is making fun of you.
A few minutes later, Zoda walked by with a donut. As soon as I saw it, I perked up. I hadn't had a donut in a year or maybe two. Ever since she'd become our PR agent. To quote Ashton, "I haven't had a donut in forever, oh poor me." I wanted one and I would've asked if I didn't know that Zoda would tell me no. Mainly because since we'd met she had me on a diet. Mostly because I was apparently, "A lot fatter than most girls in band and definitely too big for designers." She said if I didn't lose weight I would spend my life wearing t-shirts like most girls in bands which I was okay with but she wasn't.
"Hey, Z, where'd you get the donut?" Cal asked her.
"Over by the cameras." she said pointing to where she'd been coming from.
Calum started off to get one then turned around staring at me for a second. His eyebroows furrowed as i he was unsure to do something before speaking, "Al, uh. do you like-um- want a donut?"
Zoda answered before I could, "No."
I looked up at her almost shocked at her reaction. I didn't expect her to let me eat a donut but I didn't expect her to answer for me either. It almost pissed me off that she did and I had already wanted the donut so badly that she made me want it more. I bit my lip and looked at the ground afraid of what would happen next. Then, I looked at Calum waiting for his reaction. He narrowed his eyes and put a finger up shaking it at her.
"I asked Al not you." he said a bit angrily at her as he pointed to me then her.
I looked up at him almost in shock. I didn't even expect a reaction from him, but I definitely didn't expect such a strong one. I held my breath a little bit. It was obvious I just never knew what would be next.
Our relationship used to be like those pictures of mountains that people would show after they'd just come back from Europe. They looked tall and majestic and like something you needed to live up to and that was our relationship but when my mother died it was like falling. Off of the mountain. Off of everything. The rush of wind in your face that stung a dried every drop of water from your eyes. The darkness and brutality of falling face first in the snow and the cold and drastic shock of being alone.
I was floored because it felt like he always protected me. He always stood up for me no matter what the situation was. I didn't realize he'd keep doing it once we broke up.
"Al, do you want a donut?" he said a lot more confidently this time as he held his hand out to me.
I did. I did want a donut so as Zoda gave me a death stare, I took Calum's hand. It was the first time we'd touched in over a year and it almost felt odd having the warmth of my hand in his soft, larger one again. He pulled me away from Zoda wrapping an arm around my waist. My body immediately reacted to his again. It was like it knew. Like It was supposed to be there and I cursed it silently telling it that it couldn't just get comfortable there.
