Mia:
All three of us turned our heads to see a woman and a man standing at the door. Judging from their appearances, they were Asian. I racked my brain as if to remember who they were but I came up with nothing.
The woman came came forward and helped me up.
"What is the meaning of this?" The woman demanded in a frightening voice and glared at Madison.
"Who are you?" The question that I wanted to ask was asked by my uncle.
"I'm Mia's aunt, from her mother's side." The answer left me speechless.
I clearly remember my mother telling me that she fell in love with my father. When my father asked for my mother's hand in marriage, her father refused. He even threatened her that he would cut all ties with her if she married him. But my mother loved my father a lot so she went against her family and married me. Since then, no one from her family contacted us. I never knew I had an aunt.
After hearing my aunt's reply, sweat popped on my fake uncle's and aunt's faces.
"Now, would you answer me, what were you just doing to my niece?" my aunt placed her hands on my shoulders and held me close.
"Nothing, auntie, Mia was just being clumsy and fell down. I was just helping her up. Right Mia?" Madison lied right in front of my face.
My lips curved upwards in mock laughter.
Since this was my own battle so I didn't like anyone else stepping in. I just complied with her lie and nodded my head, "Sure."
At this, those fake people heaved a sigh of relief. Madison passed me a look that clearly meant that she won. I would let her enjoy this feeling as long as it can last.
My aunt clearly didn't believe them but after my reply, she stopped herself.
"If you don't mind me asking then what brings you here this late Mrs...?"
This stupid question was asked by none other than Madison."It's Mrs. Park and secondly, I just lost my sister, does that reason seem enough?" That shut Madison up.
"Now, can I ask you what you were doing here this late?" Although my aunt's gaze was fixed on Madison but her question was directed at the fake ones.
""W-we... " Madison struggled to answer.
Seeing this, fake aunt came to her rescue, " we were just visiting to make sure Mia was alright. We were just about to live." My fake aunt passed my fake uncle a look and he nodded his head.
"Right, it's late. We should go. Bye!" With that they ran away.
All this time, the man which came with my aunt stood silent. When the problem was gone, he came forward and patted my head, "Are you okay, child?" He asked me, concerned.
I was startled at the action and just nodded stiffly.
"My poor baby! Don't worry, no one will bully you now." My aunt enveloped me in a hug. I just stood still and stiff.
"We need to have a talk." My aunt said seriously.
"About what?" I still felt uncomfortable around them.
"Here read this," my aunt placed a neatly folded paper into my hands. I opened it and started reading.
With each word written in the letter, my expression changed. It was a letter written by my mom to aunt. In it she requested her to take custody of me if something ever happened to her and and my father.
"She sent this letter to me years ago. Even though, our father cut all ties with her but we sisters still kept in touch. Once I heard the news of her and your father's death, we immediately flew here. The documents are already completed. You just need to sign them." My aunt informed me.
"What documents?" I asked.
"Documents to adopt you."
"No, I don't want to leave America. My friends, my parents, my life is here." I refused, at once.
"Do you think you can enjoy your 'life's when everyone just wants to snatch your parent's money and harm you." My uncle words knocked some sense into me.
"What about you? What guarantee is there that you won't try to snatch them?"
My uncle laughed loudly.
"Smart girl. There's no guarantee about that either. But I can only say that your mother trusted you with us. Isn't that a guarantee in itself?" My uncle's smart reply shut me up.
"Okay, I'll go with you but on some conditions." I demanded.
If this is a losing situation might as well as try to get some advantages.
"Name them. We're listening." My uncle said while his eyes held amusement in them.
"You guys can't interfere in my life. Can't make decisions regarding my life. Can't stop me from moving out once I turn 18." I pointed out my conditions.
"That's a bit difficult. We do need to make some decisions like your schooling, your company etc."
I bit my lip lightly.
"How about this, we agree give you authority if you want to move out after you turn 18 but before that we can make decisions regarding your life."
I thought about this for a bit, "Deal."
