I walked into Capital One Arena proudly sporting my Guentzel jersey. My best friend, Jake Guentzel, was playing for the Pittsburgh Penguins in the NHL. They were in the second round of the playoffs and I came out to watch him play against the Caps. I made the road trip with Jake's family because I wanted to support him with them.

It was Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs and I was so excited to experience this fierce rivalry in person. The first period started off with the momentum on the Caps side, and they struck first.

There wasn't a goal until the beginning of the 3rd, when the Capitals scored again. It was very early in the third though, so I knew the Pens could come back. "Let's go Pens!" I yelled, clapping my hands. My encouragements seemed to work, because soon a goal was scored by Hornqvist. Shortly after, Crosby tied up the game.

The game was extremely close and very nerve wracking, but about 8 minutes into the third: Jake scored. I jumped up on my feet, screaming, hugging Jake's parents and brothers. I was so excited for him. Tears streamed down my face as I got to see my best friend score in the Stanley Cup Playoffs once again, and even more tears came when he pointed up to us.

Jake's goal ended up being the game winner. I was so proud of him and the team. They never gave up. I was walking towards the locker room, standing in between Jake's two brothers, with my arms around both of their shoulders as we walked through Capital One Arena and towards the away locker room.

I unhooked my arms from Jake's brothers and stepped off to the side to tie my sneaker, when I heard someone yell something at me. "Fuck Guentzel!" I heard a man yell. I assumed he was a Caps fan, so I just rolled my eyes and didn't engage. That was, until I felt something cold being thrown against me.

The man who yelled at me had poured his beer on me. I stood up from tying my shoe and looked at the man in shock, not even believing that someone would do something like that to a girl. "What the fuck do you think you're doing? Get the fuck out of here right now and get the hell away from her! You're really lucky I haven't socked your face in so get the hell out of my sight before I do it!" I heard the booming voice of my best friend coming from the side of me.

The man ran away and the tears started flowing. I was covered in beer, and I didn't know if I was crying because I felt disgusting or crying because I was proud of Jake. Probably both. Jake pulled me into him and rubbed my back slowly, trying to calm me down.

"Hey, you're safe with me. I'm not gonna let that guy get you, I promise you that." He whispered to me and I nodded into his shoulder. "What did you do to make him do that to you?" He asked me and I shrugged. "I was with Gabe and Ryan and I stepped to the side to tie my sneaker and this guy yelled 'Fuck Guentzel' and I just rolled my eyes because I knew he was drunk and the next thing I knew he threw his beer on me." I told him and Jake shook his head.

"I'm so sorry this happened to you. Let's get you back to the hotel and get you showered, okay? I promise I'll drive as fast as I can without breaking the speed limit." He joked and I nodded, laughing.

"Hey, thanks for sticking up for me." I said to Jake as we walked to the car. "It's my job to stick up for you. You mean everything to me." He told me and I smiled. "You're my best friend, Jake. I'd be lost in this world without you." I told him and his head dropped. "Yep, just friends." He mumbled and I tilted my eyebrow in confusion. "Huh?" I asked him and he smiled, shaking his head.

"You really don't know, do you?" He said and I shook my head. "Know what?" "You really don't know how much I love you. And not the best friend love. I'm in love with you, (Y/N). And I want to be with you for the rest of my life." Jake poured his heart out to me and tears streamed down my face as Jake said what I have wanted to say for 2 years.

"I love you, Jake. So much." A huge grin grew across his face and he leaned in but stopped himself. "Oh, come here and kiss me, you fool." I joked and he laughed. Don't worry, he did just as I told.
