two more weeks until school starts, i am so excited. this summer has been really dry, i did not really get to do much. i really want this summer to end, but at the same time i do not want to go back to learning. last year was not that exciting, mainly because i did not go to parties and all the college things people do. however, that was just freshman year, i have this year to catch up. right? oh wait! i have two weeks until school starts, and i haven't gotten my supplies yet. wow you are an idiot ana.

"um ma?" i hesitate.

"yes ana."

"well... uh i forgot about getting the things i need for school... and my dorm... and new clothes."

"hay nako anak. tara, let's go." *oh my gosh my child, let's go... let's go*

my mom is such an understanding person, i love her to pieces. she honestly is not responsible for me anymore, i am already 18. but... i do not have a car, so her or my dad still has to drive me around. it does not make any sense to me, i have a license, but not a car. but i understand, UCLA is pretty pricey.

we get inside the car...

"so where do you want do go?" my mom asks.

"let's go to target first."

she starts the car, "so, excited to go back to school?" she asks.

"so excited," i say sarcastically.

she senses the sarcasm, "analise louise castro, your father and i are paying so much money for UCLA. you wanted to go there, and it's a great school. do not take things for granted."

"ma, i know. i understand, i have a love hate relationship with school. i am pretty sure you understand how i feel," i explain.

"fine i understand."

last year, overall, besides not going to most of the college events, it was okay. the only thing i would change besides not having fun, would definitely be switching out my roommate. i unfortunately had to room with a sophomore, well now she is a junior. her name is victoria scott, my friends and i know her as the school whore. she is so petty and she would bring a new guy to our dorm every week and kick me out. it was disgusting, at least this year i got to pick my roommate. i of course chose lydia, my best friend. lydia and i met our sophomore year of high school. she moved from texas and we automatically clicked. we support each other in everything we do, we mostly have the same interests, and we agree on things. i say mostly, because we are majoring in different courses. she's majoring in marine biology and i am majoring in psychology.

we arrive at target and i immediately go to the school supplies section of the store and my mom goes to the produce section. as expected, most of the cute things are gone. honestly, no one cares, no one ever cared. the last time people cared about cute supplies were in sixth grade, and the beginning for seventh grade. i pick out some basic school supplies, such as paper, pencils, folders and notebooks. i already have a backpack at home as well as the colorful supplies, such as highlighters. i walk over to the dorm section and i grab a few pillows and some containers. then, i walk over to where my mom is. all of a sudden my phone starts to ring.

"hey ana!"

"hey austin," i say bluntly.

"someone doesn't sound too happy."

"maybe because someone isn't too happy."

"well, um... why?"

"well austin, my dumb ass is barely starting to buy supplies for school and my dorm. you are so lucky that you have an apartment this year."

"yea, i'm so lucky that my parents let me move officially. i wanted to get out of north carolina."

"that makes sense though you're from a different state, i still live in california, just in san francisco it is a far drive, but i don't know... anyway, how was your summer?"

"amazing, i hung out with christine all summer."

"i did nothing, lydia went to hawaii for vacation and i won't see her until school starts. must be nice."

"oh well. but, christine and i are together because of you. you introduced us to each other. i can easily introduce you to one of my teammates."

"um, i will think about it. well i have to go, bye."

"okay bye, i love you," he says.

"love you too."

austin, sweet sweet austin. austin is one of the many people i met last year. we grew really close, but he is pretty wild i must say. he was the one to try to make me go to parties, but i and refused because of school work. this year is going to be different, i am going to go to parties.

"sino yan?" my mom asks, *who was that?*

"austin."

"oh austin porter, he is a nice young man. it's good that you are friends with him." of course he is, just minus the parting and the drinking. austin knows my parents because he was there when they came to visit me. naturally, when your parents are around and your friends are with you, your friends will be extra nice. that is just my experience. but it is good that my parents approve of him.

we finish at target and all i have to do now is go to the mall to buy new clothes.

we arrive at the mall and i buy a few pairs of jeans, comfy shorts, and a couple tops. okay well now i am done. my mom and i get back in the car to go back home.

"so who is going to bring me to la?" i ask.

"it is going to be a surprise."

a surprise? okay. oh no, she better not be talking about my sister, janice. as much as i love her i also hate her. i haven't seen her in a while. she has already graduated from college, she went to UCSC and she loved it in santa cruz so much that she moved there. my sister drives, i mean duh, she's 24 and she doesn't live with us. well, i have to wait to see what this surprise is.
