MAYA POV

I woke up to the sound of someone softly humming. I squeezed my eyes and rigorously rubbed at them removing the rest of my sleepiness. My eyes instantly opened and I noticed a delicious aroma filling the air.

Oh god…What is that amazing smell? My stomach started grumbling in response so I carefully stood up and followed the humming.

I found myself inside the kitchen where I saw Riley stirring something on the stove with her back to me.

“Oh my gosh this smells amazing!” I gush. She clearly didn’t expect me here as she jumped in surprise before turning around. Her eyes were wide with fear before they softened when she saw me.

“Sorry, you just scared me a little.” She chuckles nervously. I give her a small apologetic smile.

“What are you making?” I ask as I hear my stomach grumble again. She chuckles at me before replying.

“Well I figured since we both woke up so late, I would make us lunch. So I made a simple spaghetti nothing too fancy.” I quickly check the time on the kitchen clock. 2:14pm. Wow. I seriously overslept!

“Well it smells amazing!” I compliment her while she tips some of it in a serving bowl before placing it on the kitchen table.

“Thanks.” She replies shyly. “Help yourself!” she adds. I frown at her.

“Aren’t you eating?” I ask her.

“I’ve already eaten.” She says simply but I can see right through her. She’s lying to me.

“You’re lying to me.” I say quietly while shoving a forkful of the AMAZING spaghetti into my mouth. Her eyes widen in shock but she just looks at the ground and says nothing.

“How about afterward we go into town and we will get something for you to eat there? You need to eat especially after everything you have been through.” I reason with her. A look of guilt crosses her features. She turns her face up to meet my gaze. Her look shows pain and fear.

“But what if they are there?” she asks referring to Lucas and the others. I hadn’t actually thought of that. There was a good chance they would be there since this place is so small.

“Then we fight back. I will bring that knife along with me just in case but I don’t think they will pull anything on us in public.” I try to convince her. Or was I trying to convince myself? I don’t know but this girl needs to eat. She is already way too skinny.

“Fine.” She grumbles still not sounding too happy about this. I smiled happily at her before shoving another forkful of the food into my mouth.

“Are you sure you don’t want any of this? It’s delicious!” I ask with my mouth half full. She looks at the food in front of me then at me. Her face goes pale and she looks extremely nauseous.

“No thanks I’m good.” She croaks.

It may be a challenge to get her to eat….

Once Riley and I were ready, we set out into town. She was a little hesitant at first but came along anyway. Why was she so afraid of eating?

We walked along the path to town in silence and honestly, it was killing me. This mysterious girl stayed over at my house and the only things I know about her are her name and that she can cook killer spaghetti.

“So…errmm…if you don’t mind me asking but how did you end up at Farkle's?” I ask her cautiously breaking the silence.

She looks down at the pavement and takes a deep breath. I can see she looks uncomfortable.
