Something is definitely not right with Daniel. He looks so tired. I've never seen him like this.
"Why do you look like that Daniel?"
I manage to take a quick shower before he arrives. We are sitting downstairs on my couch.
"I'm just tired" I observe him.
"Are you and Tina alright? Are you cheating on her?" He frowns.
"Of course not"
"Then why do you look so worried and tired? The last time I saw you like this it was when you were stressed out after mom and dad died and was worried about me"
He clears his throat.
Whenever he clears his throat it means he's going to avoid the conversation.
"Before you avoid the conversation, tell me where you were and why you weren't picking my calls"
"You know me too well. I need to spend less time with you"
"Too late for that. Now...spill" He slumps himself backwards, then spread his hands out on top of the couch.
"When I was at the office...I called Tina to ask her about what you told me about Lucifer's friend"
"Seriously Daniel?"
"Yes seriously. You always find a way not to tell me things, so I always have to find a way to find out" I really didn't plan on telling him later as I told him.
"So...what did Tina say"
"Nothing" He breath out.
"Guess I'm gonna have to get her drunk to find out. But that's not possible now because she's upset with me. She won't pick my calls. She said I should let you live your life without me interfering"
"She should be upset with you Daniel. We're friends. Best friends. If I tell her something and you ask her to break her promise to me by telling you, it means breaking my trust for her. She don't wanna know that I can't trust her to tell her certain things"
"I know. But Christina when it comes down to your safety I need to be informed" He's definitely right about that. I need to tell him about the phone call I received.
"So please tell me what Lucifer friend did?"
"Promise me you'll leave it alone"
"What?" He breath out with a smile that says 'of course' and roll his eyes.
"I..always leave it alone" Yeah right.
"First. Why didn't you pick my calls?"
"I got upset with Tina for not telling me. Then she hung up on me. I sat at my desk for a while, but before I knew it I fell asleep. Usually when I'm at work I put my phone on silent. There's too much to do at the office for distractions". I frown.
"I understand the second part, but you fell asleep at your desk?"
"It happened before. I hadn't gotten any sleep in days" What?
"How? Your eyes didn't look that way yesturday, so how does it look like this today? The only time a remember your eyes looking like that was when you hadn't slept for like...three or four days"
"Your so perceptive. But don't worry about me princess. I'm fine I promise". I'm connected to him in a way I don't understand. And I can tell when he's lying. Just as he can tell when I'm lying. Somehow what he's telling me doesn't make any sense. How can someone eyes that were clear as the sky yesturday, but dark like midnight today? What happened to him that he's not telling me about?
