Chapter 1

Walking down the street with my best friend, Caitlin after school in the warm Sydney weather on our way to get smoothies. Wearing our totally hideous school uniforms including maroon blazers, white button down shirts and plaid maroon skirts. Not to mention the black knee highs, though we do have the style freedom of shoes, usually I wear my platform vans.

Anyways, as I was saying. Caitlin and I were headed to the smoothie cafe. Once we walked in the poorly decorated cafe we went to the counter and ordered our usuals. Mine, a strawberry with no fat yogurt, and extra ice, Caitlin; a plain strawberry smoothie. Though the cafe wasn't decorated very well, it was the best, whether you ate there or were just grabbing a coffee to go. Walking over to our spot in the corner, I noticed a familiar head full of colorful hair, realizing it was Michael, Caitlin's boyfriend I headed straight for their table knowing Luke, Calum and Ashton would be there as well. When I came up to the table, I pulled over a chair and sat with the guys, Caitlin following my suit, only Michael pulled her over a chair.

"So you went with black this week Michael?" I sarcastically mentioned.

"Yeah I wanted a change." Michael says with a bored sigh.

"When don't you?" Calum adds in a mocking tone.

We all sit and chat a while, I couldn't help but find myself in a daze staring at Luke's lip ring and how nice he looked today.

I've liked Luke for three years, and we've been on and off for two years, with us growing apart while he was on tour. But now, he's back, his mom decided he should have time back home and he should finish school.

I haven't seen him in months and though I've seen Mike, Calum and Ashton. He had gotten the lip ring about 8 months ago, right after we broke up. I grew my hair out from it's short choppy cut after we broke up.I've done some changing, I became a vegetarian, started running and doing yoga. I told myself that I don't need him, that he wasn't mine anymore. Today though, he looked like home and it took every inch of me not to go curl up in his arms.

Sitting on opposite sides of the table, I averted my eyes away from his sculpted face and focused on drinking my smoothie from my lip stain covered straw.

"So how's high school treating you ladies?" Ashton teased.

"Absolutely insane, I have so many finals and I just want to start my career already, I don't see why I have to take all these pointless classes, I'll learn so much more out getting experiences!" Caitlin whined.

"Now you see why I quit school?" Michael teases her and gives her a kiss on the cheek as she pouts.

"What about you Izzy?"

I looked up from my almost gone smoothie and shrugged, "It's okay, pretty much just waiting for the day I get my diploma."

"Thank goodness I got mine." Calum says while holding hands as if he were going to pray. Everyone continues chattering and I go to throw away my smoothie cup. I walk back and notice Luke looking at me, I look away, feeling like a huge mass was just dropped on my chest. I pull my phone out of my blazer pocket and check the time. "Shoot!" I say as I get back to the table. "Caitlin and I gotta go guys, we have work in 20 minutes!"

"Eww I don't feel like going."

"Get me some Chicken Pasanda!" Michael said right after.

"Um, you have to come get it yourself." Caitlin said through a laugh.

"Alright c'mon, we're going to be late!" I say as I grab her arm to bring her away. "Later guys." I say as we head out the door.

Once we exit the small store on the corner we take off sprinting to work, luckily we packed our uniforms so we ran down the roads we've gone down day after day again until we see Papadoms, the hot spot that everyone goes to eat at.

Hours, and running from table to table later, work was over. I leaned back on the counter, wiping sweat from my forehead as Caitlin leaned next to me letting out a big sigh of relief that work was over.

Heading home we cut down the alley on our way home, since we live so close together and its about 5 minutes from the restaurant. slowly walking back home in our greasy work clothes we turned the corner and continued down a side street until we made it to the street we live on, Hail street.

Walking up the steps to my house I saw a tall figure outlined by the light flooding out of the window. I knew instantly who it was, after all, I knew every edge of that boy and my heart sped up as I saw him slightly slouched against the door frame. I heard my Chihuahua-Doxie mix, Frannie barking for me inside, but I ignored her due to my mind going blank from the unexpected guest. He pulled his hood down, the light shining over his face, exposing his soft blue eyes.

"Hey." Luke said as he looked into my eyes.

"Um, hi." I managed to sputter out as I sat my bag on the ground next to my feet, house key in hand.

"Can we talk?"
