Kongpob wakes up and does his usual routine. After his run he goes to shower and puts on casual dress for once. It's a relief from the usual starch uniform he always wears at school. Today marks the first day of the festival, and to say that he's excited is an understatement. After he gets ready he texts his boyfriend like usual.
"Good morning, P'Arthit. I'm on my way to school. Concentrate on your work." He doesn't expect a reply from Arthit. It's morning and his boyfriend would rather chew him up alive than talk to people.
It makes him a little bit sad that he can't spend the rest of the day with his lover. Kongpob knows Arthit is still busy with his internship and will probably only get to see the festival just as they were cleaning up already.
The thought makes him gloomy.
Maprang has yet to reveal their costumes which worry him a little. He hasn't told Arthit about it yet. She slaved them for two days, ordering them around like the boss she was. There was a glint in her eyes as the Gear Café started to get into shape. Together with the rest of the guys they managed to establish a passable café located near the bleachers where they held their catching of the flag. It's a good spot if he say so himself.
Their seniors would be proud of them. They're future engineers so it's only natural that building things are their forte.
There's an opening ceremony at 8am at the open field. The field was transformed into this concert pit complete with a mini stage and different stalls surrounding it. Kongpob saw every student was busy with their own tasks which made him want to work harder. There was a smile on his face the entire time they were finishing their café.
He meets with his best friend at the lounge. For once, the busy hallways are empty aside from a couple of students wearing costumes. For the morning performance, he figures.
"I'm so excited, Kong!" exclaims Aim.
Kongpob smiles at him. He, too, is excited. "Yeah, let's enjoy ourselves shall we?"
They spot the rest of their friends at the covered walk by the field. Seeing the open field now brings a shiver of thrill in his veins. It's nearing 8am and the field is starting to fill up. There are a few stalls selling breakfast that are open now, he notices. Maybe he'll grab a bite later.
"This is so cool!" Maprang squeals. "Who knows it'll be this exciting?"
Everyone smiles and nods their head. Kongpob can feel everyone vibrate with excitement.
"I can't wait to meet so many girls!" says Oak, scanning the area.
"If anyone asks, you're not with us." Maprang says.
"Why do I have to care all these?" They all turn their heads and sees Prepailin carrying two big plastic bags filled with clothes. The guys immediately help her.
"I just got my nails done," she pouts.
"I totally forgot about those," Maprang smiles cheekily.
"Are these our costumes?" Tew eyes the bag carefully. Kongpob is actually scared to take a peek.
They meet the rest of the freshmen at their stall where everyone is waiting. There's a running joke at their batch that Kongpob and his friends are engineering's next crazy gang which makes him scoff because that's just ridiculous. They're all sane people -
"Feed me mi lady!" Oak is opening his mouth as Maprang throws crumbs of bread at him while Prepailin records it and the rest laughing.
Okay, so maybe his friends are not entirely sane, but they're the best kinds of people anyway.
