Carl had managed to find a car parked outside of a garage, he'd located the keys and we bundled ourselves in. It was now nearing on midnight. Carl, actually got the car started, much to the pleased surprise of myself, and we headed towards the country roads that headed away from the town. It was all in pitch black. I was grateful that Carl was taking it slowly, he put the headlights although I was worried in case we were spotted. We managed to bypass the next couple of towns without being seen. We passed a few towns, although if I hadn't seen signs saying 'Welcome to...." I would never have thought there were there. As again, it was plunged into darkness. This seemed to be  constant, as we drove by at least another four towns, all the same.

We must have driven for at least three hours non stop, and it almost seemed as if it was christmas. Twinkling lights danced before my eyes, I squeezed them shut and opened them again. Yes it was a town with working electricity. The sight of those man made lights had never looked so wonderous to me. I grinned at Carl.

"Let's make a pit stop. See if we can find ourselves a news or internet connection"... Carl was only too happy to oblige, he turned into the road leading into the town. We heeded Collins warning and parked the car, by an empty warehouse and walked the rest of the way on foot. We came to what looked like a dispatch yard. A very tired, and bored looking guy was sitting at a desk.

"Hi, .." I called out.

"What do ya want?" Seems my charms where not going to win here.

"We need to know where the nearest Cafe that's open at this time? Oh, and do you have a TV that's currently showing the news?"

The guy scratched his head, looked us both over and decided we didn't look like the type to rob him. "Yeah sure, what you want with the news though? It's all bloody doom and gloom. TV's in here", he thumbed the wall opposite him..He held the door open for us, as we both looked at the screen. News Flashes of a hundred different types of natural disasters flashed up before us.

"Millions presumed dead, after various natural disasters happening all around the Globe. People are advised to stay indoors and that emergency personell will be deployed in affected areas shortly"

"They're just repeating the information they put out earlier! I can't believe it!" I turned to the guy, "Has there been anything on the news about the North of England? Anything at all?"

He looked at me warily, "No, just reports of electrical failure. And people are being evacuated until they've solved the problem......Why?.....What's going on?"

"Honestly, I'm not sure. But whatever you do. Don't go home. Stay away from town, go somewhere remote" I knew even as I said this he wouldn't. He had the 'This one's crazy' expression on his face. He backed away a little and I knew he was lost....

"Sir, can you just direct us towards the cafe? We've had a really long drive" Carl asked, he could see it too.

"Yeah, yeah.... five minutes walk. It's a truckers stop. Has a few tables and chairs."..

"Thanks". We walked out of his little office and headed towards the cafe. He wasn't wrong when he said a Truckers Cafe. It was a mobile cafe that you see up and down the country next to the motorways. Serving tea, coffee and greasy food. It looked and smelt like an oasis for me.

I gratefully sank into a chair and deeply inhaled the smell of frying oil and onions. My stomach growled..

"Elise...What do you want? I'll get this, you can get the next one" He smirked at me,... I raised an eyebrow at him... "Fair enough... I'll have a large strong coffee, two sugars. A double cheeseburger and a large hot dog with onions" If I was on my way to certain death, I'd at least do it on a full stomach.
