The pain came in waves, making my stomach harden involuntary. I was led on an old battered sofa, whilst Carl gripped my hand and wiped at the sweat on my brow. I was  truly frightened, I didn't know what to expect, but my body began to contract on its own....It might have been minutes or hours, the pain was all I could feel. It enveloped me, wrapping me in it's harsh embrace.

"It's coming! Hurry up Collins!!" Bellowed Carl

"Right Elise, just try to breathe calmly, Collins will be here in a minute and it will all be over soon"

I couldn't answer, all I could do was scream through the next wave of contractions, My body began to push this alien, forcibly out of my body, I felt myself tearing, and then warmth between my legs... then, a cry... A human baby cry.

"Give it to me" I told Carl, he hesitated for a moment, then bundled up the small thing, and handed it to me.

A crashing wave of love and protectiveness washed over me, totally taking me unawares as to the depths of feeling I had, for this little thing I held in my arms. I unwrapped him, to take a full look at him. And found I was holding a little girl, She had a high sloping forehead, her eyes were hazel, slightly elongated and her pupils had the appearance of a cat's eye. She had ten fingers and ten toes...and looked fully human, if you ignored the difference to her eyes. She wailed again, and I immediately put her to my breast. I felt a sharp needle like nip around my nipple, Oh my lord, she's got teeth!  A slow trickle of blood travelled down from my nipple, but there was no more pain. I held her close, and marvelled at how beautiful she was. I was expecting some hideous creature, not this!

Collins had come into the room, he'd found some local anesthetic and injected it into my pubis area. "I'm just going to stitch you up Elise, it wont take long. You'll be sore for a few days but you should be ok" As he began to set to work, I led back trying to come to grips with my emotions.

During the time, I had examined my little girl. Carl had stood off to the side of the room, wearily watching. "It's ok Carl, she's not one of them",

"How can you say that!?" He demanded, "She's bitten you! Look at her forehead! Her eyes!" As he said this, I felt a ripple against my chest, as I Iooked at her, her forehead was no longer elongated, but was now normal, like any human child's'.

I gasped, and Carl hurried to my side. "Oh my god Elise, now you can't deny she's human. No human can manipulate their physical body in such a way." He looked repulsed by her, and backed away shaking his head.

"Carl, please don't turn away from me. We need you. I need you." I pleaded. " I can't help it, but I love her, she's mine, we need to protect her.  She's just a baby, she can't help how she was created or by whom. Please.." I begged.

He looked torn, but instead of coming to me. He walked out of the room.

"Don't worry Elise, he'll come round. It's just shock, due to the turn out of events. He'll be back. Now you need to rest, you're healing a lot faster than I understand, which we will discuss later, but for now you need your strength. And you need to look after her",

He stroked her head, and smiled..."She needs a name too".

A name...Hmmm what could I call her? An idea popped into my head. "Reve", I said out loud... Little Reve snuggled closer. Yes Reve. (Pronounced Reeve). As in Revelation. As she was to me, but we'd have to hide her and protect her from Them.

It'd had been nearly twenty four hours, since the arrival of Reve, and during that time, Collins had grilled me as to why my stitches had almost healed and that the bite wound on my nipple had gone. I explained what the Nurse had said, and admitted they must have altered my DNA somehow, which would explain how I was able to carry Reve in my womb.

We discussed hitting the road, as we would have to find somewhere where the Government couldn't find us, along with their new found friends. He explained that, since the video had been uploaded onto the Internet, more and more people had begun to turn up. Some ready to fight, others to flee.

"Elise we need to get you both safetly away from here, I've noticed that Reve is growing quickly and that will be noticed by everyone. It's not safe here. For either of you. I've made arrangements for us to travel to Dublin. I've left someone else in charge, they'll keep me posted on any news. People are being made aware of what's going on, we've done what we can. I'm still searching for Sophie and David, but after what you saw back there, me might have to accept the worst. I'm sorry Elise"...

I'd thought all of this myself, and tried to ignore the fact that they would be dead. I hadn't wanted to accpet that fact. But I couldn't hide from it any longer. I would mourn for them, but right now my immediate concerns were for my daughter. I still hadn't seen Carl since he walked out on me yesterday.

"Is Carl coming too?"

"I am"  He walked towards me but still kept his distance, seeing as I was holding Reve. "It's going to take time, until I'm ok with this Elise. But I'm not leaving you."  Relief flooded me, I was sure he would turn away from me for good. I was glad and grateful he hadn't. I loved him, and knowing I had him by my side. Made me feel safe.

"Carl....I....Thank you. It means the world to me, to hear you say that."

"Right guys, we'd best make a move. We've stayed here too long as it is. And the quicker, we put some distance between us and that place. I might just be able to sleep that little bit easier"....."Here let me have a hold of her Elise." Collins held his arms out. "You need to shower and change, I've put what you need in the bathroom."

Twenty minutes later, we were on the road again. Me, Carl, Reve and Collins. It seemed we were always running. One day I'd like to stand and fight. Little Reve, wriggled in my arms. The fighting will have to wait I thought. I wasn't about to rush off when my little girl needed me. As I stared down at her, watching her sleep. I saw her skin ripple and a bright green scale popped up above her eyebrow. Sitting along her hair line. I froze, and kept watch. A minute later, her skin rippled again and her face was as it was earlier, smooth, human. No visible scales, or marks.

A horrible thought crept into my head, and my mind turned back to the basement. The Draconion's jaw snapping, droplets of blood flying. And what appeared to be skin, human skin in its claws. Visible chunks missing from it.

No! I swore to myself. I will NOT let that happen. Nurture over nature, I fervently hoped. And hugged my baby closer.

Thank you so much for reading! I hope you've enjoyed the journey. Now who wants the next one? Vote and comment guys!
