I awake to a piercing sound in my ears, like a thousand bees buzzing inside my head, my vision is blurred but once it realigns I see, its morning, the sun is high in the sky shining on me, waves lap at my feet, I feel sand under my hands, warm, dry sand, then it hits me, what happened yesterday and I realize that I wasn't dreaming, I'm still naked but now laying alone on an unfamiliar beach.
"Good, you're awake!" Says the sweet voice of an unknown woman, I look around and see her, she's draped over a rock in the water and watching me, she seems to chuckle at my confusion when in the place of her legs I see a long, green tail "mermaid" I whisper slowly, my voice croaky from the salt water, she grins at me then I realise where she seems to be looking, I cover myself "oh dear" she says playful "I'm sorry, I just" she trails off while looking away "I've never seen a naked human before!" She's excited, I chuckle too "yes, well" I smile "we tend to wear clothes" I grimace at the thought of being seen by someone else.
"Erm, you" I say looking over her features, her scarlette red hair flowing in the wind, obviously she's been there a while, she looks at me and sighs "Ariel" I drop my eyes from hers "huh?" She stretches out, moving to the water re wetting her perfectly dry skin and swims to shore, but remaining in the water "my name, its Ariel, I saw you last night, floating, you were asleep" she smiles "So I brought you here, its safe, no one around, I've never seen a human here, you're the first"
"So what now" I say worried "where do I go? What do I do?" She bites her lip thinking "Hook" I say aloud, this obviously jolts something as her eyes shoot back to mine "Hook?" She questions "Yes" I reply "I was taken from his ship, I must get back to him" I wince in pain as I feel cramping in my stomach, Ariel looks questioning and worried "what is it?" She shouts unable to come to me "I... I don't know" I stutter, I drop to my knees holding myself, no longer able to feel his presence, no movement, then I see it, blood, I know then that my heart is about to break, I've lost him, I scream in sadness, my baby, is gone, now I'm nothing, my eyes begin to water "I'm no woman" I say weaker than before, "my soul purpous was to protect my child and I couldn't even do that" I whisper with a broken voice, tears begin to fall as I feel the emptiness take over my body, I am nothing but an empty shell "I have failed" my lip begins to shake as reality kicks in like a canon just fired by my head.
Then I realise, it's his fault, the pirate who hit me "bastard!" I begin to weep but stop myself now angry more than hurt, the poor mermaid is confused but knows not to speak, as I slam my hands into the ground I look up apologetic, knowing she's not to blame but she's gone, not even a goodbye, just the waves leaving me to wonder if I had imagined the whole thing, perhaps a lack of water, and shade, I shake my head in anger at my ridiculous imagineation and beg the gods to kill me.
After losing my baby, I wish for death, theres no motivation to look for water so I lay there, placid, silent looking at nothing, this time I want death to take me, its handed me a perfect reason to die so I will, I will give up and let it take me, let me be with my unborn son "son" I say weakly "yes, you'd have been a boy" I know it in my heart, I don't know how but I just, do...
