Night shrouded me in darkness as I quickened my pace down the empty city streets. Street lamps illuminated my path. The faint sound of people could be heard as I left the company party I'd attended behind. Stars speckled the cloudless sky above me and I breathed in the evening air. I passed dark store front after dark store front. The street quieted as I rounded the end of the block making my way back home. Suddenly an unsettling feeling pooled in my stomach. The feeling of being watched overtook me and I quickened my pace.
Just a few more blocks away and I'm safe. The reassuring thought was short lived however as I was jerked roughly into a nearby alley way. I was slammed against the brick building I was passing. The rough contact causing the bricks to bite at the exposed skin on my arms. I let out a gasp and faced my attacker. A stocky man stood in front of me. His clothes looked disgustingly disheveled and a pungent aroma wafted up into my face. His quirk activated pulling his arm into a sharp knife like object. The moons light gleamed off of its slick surface. My heart pounded against my ribs hastily and tears threatened to fall. I was utterly defenseless. Even if it had been legal to use my quirk it wouldn't have mattered much. My ability to heal was about as use full as being able to jump rope in this situation.
"Give me everything you've got. I want the purse and phone! Drop any jewelry you've got on and I won't have to hurt you!" He snarled and it sent a chill down my skin. My hands shook violently and my mind went blank only leaving me with one thought.
Where's a pro hero when you need one?
"Wow, acting like the small time thug you are," a deep husky voice spoke emerging from the darkest parts of the alley way. The monotone voice pulled my attention to him. A man, probably about my age, walked into view. His dark hair fell gracefully around his features, his deep blue eyes practically looked through me. I physically felt the man in front of me stiffen at the sight of him.
Is this guy some new hero? I've never seen him before.. my thoughts trailed away.
"Look Dabi, I'm working on getting you-" my attackers voice shook releasing his grip on me. He took a step back his legs quivering.
"This is absolutely pathetic." The new comer added his voice calm and even. He stepped closer, the nearest street lamp tossed light across his form. The skin around his features was dark and held together with what appeared to be surgical staples. My breath caught in my throat. He was beautiful but a sense of danger radiated from him. "I won't give second chances. Get out of my sight." He spat the words like poison at the trembling man before me. Smoke crept from what seemed like thin air. "Next time you won't be so lucky. Now get me what the league asked for."
The league? Like league of villains league? My heart continued to beat rapidly against my chest. The will to escape was but a dwindling thought, my legs wouldn't move, I was frozen. My assailant stumbled back farther and took off down the street leaving the two of us behind.
Dabi turned his attention to me. His eyes locked with my (e/c)ones. He moved closer closing the gap between us. He leaned into me, our faces only a few inches apart. He smirked pulling the strap of my purse back onto my shoulder,I hadn't even noticed it fall off.
"I'm sorry about all this." The warmth of his breath across my skin sent goosebumps across my arms.
"D-don't be." My voice shook slightly and I swallowed hard. The sound of my heart beat rang in my ears. "You're my hero." The smirk held tightly to his lips.
"Oh I'm far from it." His words drifted into the cool air and my stomach dropped in response. "You should probably get out of here." He added pulling his face from mine. He turned from me casually taking a few steps back into the darkness of the alley. "Careful though, there are a lot of shady characters out this late. Wouldn't want that pretty face to get messed up."
My mind screamed at me to run but something about him pulled me in. There was an unexpected allure to his demeanor and I wanted nothing more than to follow him.
"D-don't I get to thank you in some way?" My voice betrayed me trembling once again. My rescuer came to a halt sliding his hands carelessly into his pant pockets.
"And how exactly would you do that?" He raised an eyebrow waiting for my response.
Before I could stop myself the words dropped from my lips. "Whatever you want, you did save me after all." I watched him carefully. He tilted his face so he was looking at me again.
"Whatever I want, huh? What an odd thing to say to someone like me." His stare held like glue.
"Someone like you?" I questioned taking a step towards him. His features roped in my curiosity. He turned and quickly closed the space between us. Forcing me to step back into the brick wall. His eyes held mine so intently that I couldn't look away.
"I'm not exactly what you would call a "good" guy." He brought his arm up next to me resting it on the brick wall at my back. My breath caught in my throat and I begged myself to say something.
"It doesn't matter, I wouldn't feel right not returning the favor." My voice came out a little louder than a whisper and it was obvious how intimating he was. He hesitated a moment. His eyes danced across my face and I was suddenly feeling very insecure.
Before I could say anything else he slipped his under my chin tilting my face towards his. My breath caught in my throat. He moved his face closer to mine in an almost painfully slow motion. His lips moved with mine gently. My eyes fluttered shut as I slowly became more welcoming. It was strange and amazing all at the same time. His welcoming scent pulled me in and I fought the urge to wrap my arms around him. He moved so carefully like if he did the wrong thing I would break. His lips parted from mine and I stared up at him dazed.
"There." He whispered into my lips. "Even."
