"You wanna stay for dinner again?" The red and white haired boy to my right asked as I pulled my eyes from the papers in front of me. It had been a few weeks since class 1-A had been told about the upcoming exam and we'd all been doing our best to study. Lucky for me todoroki hadn't made plans with anyone else to start a study group so I'd offered. Between studying with everyone at school and the cram sessions I'd been having with todoroki I was finally starting to feel confidently about it.
"Sure, as long as your family doesn't mind." I smiled tucking the mess of papers into my bag. He waved my comment away.
"You know my sisters just happy I have someone over." He looked at me reassuringly and I followed him out of the room. We entered the very traditional dining room, the smell of food wafted around us. I sat next to my class mate as his sister entered the room bowls of food in hand. She smiled brightly at me and I returned the favor. She rested the bowls in the center of the table and sat across from us. Todoroki helped himself to the intoxicating cooking and I followed after his sister.
"So," she began her eloquent voice filling the air. "Are you two just study buddies or something else?" She beamed at us, her innocent smile reflecting in her eyes. "You'd make an awfully cute couple." I could feel the heat rushing to my cheeks as I quickly waved the thought away.
"Oh no, I'm just a study buddy, nothing like that!" I assured her and looked toward my partner who seemed unfazed. Just as the statement left my lips the sound of sturdy foot falls entered the room. A new brightness and warmth filled the room and I felt todoroki shift uncomfortably next to me. Endeavor made his presence known and joined us proudly. In the few times I'd stayed for dinner this was the first he'd ever joined us. The mood seemed to fall slightly, though the girls smile in front of me never faltered. She greeted him welcomingly as she filled a bowl for him.
"So finally meeting my sons class mate, how's the studying going?" His voices boomed a slight underlying harshness could barley be heard.
"Just finished up for the night, I'm sure we'll ace this one." I responded after a moment quickly realizing todoroki wasn't going to. I gave him a quick smile finishing off the bowl in front of me.
"I'm sure you both will." He retorted and an uncomfortable silence filled the room. "So what exactly can you do young lady?" the question broke my concentration and my eyes darted back to the number two hero. I was taken slightly back by the sudden question and I answered quickly.
"Oh, I can manipulate water. I can't create it but I can pull it from the atmosphere and things like that." I responded my cheeks feeling flush once again.
"I'm sure that will be quite useful as a hero." The large man added making me relax slightly. Todoroki shifted next to me pushing his dish away.
"I'll be right back." His cool voice breathed mostly to me as he exited the room. The uneasy feeling resurfaced once more.
"I'll get those," his sister added reaching a handout to me. Her white hair falling gracefully around her cheerful face I couldn't help but feel a little better. She plucked the few bowls in front of me and waltzed out of the room.
"What exactly are your intentions with Shouto?" Endeavor asked after a moment staring down towards me. His question so direct. An unsettling feeling washed over me and I looked up at him.
"Intentions sir?" I questioned back his blue eyes locking with my (e/c) ones.
"It's come to my attention that you've been over quite a bit recently. I just want to make sure," he paused a moment like he was trying to figure out how to word what he wanted to say. "I hope the two of you aren't distracting each other from your goals." I nodded understanding what he really meant by that statement. He's really make sure I'm not becoming a distracting for his son. Words swirled in my mind.
"I assure you, we are just studying nothing more than that." I retorted as todoroki and his sister rejoined us. The overwhelming feeling of being unwelcome by the man across from me pooled around me.
"This was wonderful, thank you very much."I said smiling at the white and red haired woman across from me. "I should really head home though before it gets to late. Thank you again." I continued standing. Todoroki followed me to the front door, my bag slung over his shoulder.
"Why don't you walk her home Shouto." Endeavors voice boomed from behind us as I pulled the front door open. Cool evening air stirred as I stepped through the threshold.
"Oh that's really okay you don't-" I began and was cut off by todorokis calm voice.
"Yeah. I will." The half and half boy next to me stated shutting us off from his fathers disapproving stare. We walked for a while a calm silence between the two of us. The sky had turned a mixture of reds and oranges and the breeze tugged at my (hair length) hair.
"Are you okay?" Todoroki questioned a hint of concern laced through his calm exterior.
I shook away the thoughts I continued playing over in my head of his father and gave him a smile.
"Of course why wouldn't I be, oh and I can take that." I responded gesturing to my bag. He passed it over to me and I slung it over my shoulder. He walked closer to me,closing the space that had been made between us for the bag.
"You seem.." he pulled me to a stop. "You seem off." His eyes traced over my features and I could feel the heat rushing to my cheeks. I tried giving him a more convincing smile. Though I had a feeling he could see through it. Why was I feeling so down? I mean what i had said was true right? Todoroki and I weren't anything to each other. We were class mates. The thoughts continued . But why did I have a heavy feeling in my chest since I talked to his dad. Why was this hurting so bad.
"Did He say something to you?" My heart raced at the question. I waved my hand pushing the notion alway.
"No no nothing like that I'm just tired that's all." I smiled once more and began back in the direction of my apartments avoiding his gaze. It was just a few blocks away from todoroki's house but the walk felt like it took years. We stopped at a door after a few minutes of walking and I pulled my key from my bag. I pushed the thin front door out of the way flipping on the light switch in the entry. Light flooded into the small space. I stood at the threshold not really sure what to say.
"You can come in if you want? I mean you did walk all the way over here." I commented looking back at the quiet boy behind me. He nodded and I held the door open for him then followed inside.
It was quiet, my neighbors were more on the elderly side and most had probably retired for the night. The faint sound of kids playing fell to my ears every now and then from the play ground behind the apartments. Todoroki waited quietly in the entry hallway watching me intently. I made my way to the kitchen off to the right and he followed.
"Tea?" I questioned pulling a kettle from the cabinets closest to the sink and filling it with water. He nodded and I brought the burner to life placing the kettle on. I turned to him. He leaned across from me his body relaxed against the counter, I mimicked him leaning against the sink. My heart beat roughly against my chest. I begged myself to relax but something felt different now. Like an unspoken truth had been brought to light.
"You all by yourself?" His smooth voice calmed me.
"Yeah," I answered shrugging, "My mom works all over the world helping where ever she can, she's a rescue hero in the states at the moment I think. Not sure about my old man haven't seen him since I was seven." My voice trailed away and he crossed the kitchen to stand next to me.
"I'm sorry." He leaned into me slightly our shoulders touching. My heart hammered roughly against my chest. I looked up to him, my eyes meeting his heavy gaze. My hands and cheeks grew hot but I couldn't bring myself to look away from him. Just classmates right? Just classmates, I repeated the words over and over in my mind. Trying to convince myself maybe?
"Don't be," I responded pulling myself back together. "He was a real monster from what I remember, not really the "dad" type." I added making air quotations. He nodded at me, as if to say he understood. "Anyway, that leaves just me." Just as I finished the sound of the kettle whistling begged for my attention. I retrieved two cups from the same cabinet I got the kettle and poured them full. I extended a cup to the boy next to me. Our fingers just brushing, sending chills down my spine. I pulled away instinctively and leaned against the opposite wall where he had been.
"You still want to come over tomorrow and study?" He questioned and his dads words played back in my mind. I hesitated in responding to him.
"I'm..I don't know todoroki l-" I stammered and he cut me off.
"What did he say to you." He stated it more than questioned and I focused on the steaming tea in my hands.
"I just," I paused as his phone chirped, he pulled it from his pocket reading it quickly and then returned it. "You might want to take that." I said trying to change the subject. He huffed at me in response.
"We can study here if your uncomfortable-" He began and I waved him away.
"No it's fine, your house is fine. I just actually had some stuff to do with Kirishima so I won't be able to tomorrow that's all." Nice (y/n) good save. I mentally high fived myself and waited for his response. No part of me wanted to get in between a father and son.
"Kirishima?" He questioned his eyes looking at me confused.
"Yup. Kirishima." I answered spreading a smile across my face. Something in his face changed but I couldn't place it quick enough.
"Okay, then day after, we don't have long before the test." He responded and his phone chirped again. "Thank you for the tea, but it looks like I really should go." I smiled resting my cup on the counter and taking his.
"Sure day after tomorrow." I repeated walking him to the door. I pulled it open letting the night air fill my apartment. "Thank you for walking me home."I added and he gave me a slight smile.
"Of course." He added almost looking like he wanted to say more.
"See you tomorrow." I smiled and he waved walking away leaving me to my unraveling thoughts. I knelt to the floor pulling my cell phone from my bag. I hastily clicked my address book, scrolling through names. "K's k's where are k's." I breathed my eyes dancing over the screen. "Ah hah! There you are!" I exclaimed standing up. I pressed the small illuminated name and pulled the phone to my ear. The phones ring hummed rhythmically and my heart raced as seconds felt more like hours.
"Hey (y/n)! What's up?" Kirishimas cheerful voices answered. I let out a huge sigh of relief.
"Kirishima I've got a favor to ask you."
