Birds chirped happily in the distance, a cool calm breeze blew through my (h/c) hair, and my heart beat roughly against my chest. I waited.
KNOCK. KNOCK.KNOCK.
I paused listening for life inside the quaint house before me. Todoroki's house to be exact. I shifted the bag of school supplies on my shoulder and nervousness engulfed me. 'Maybe he's not home, oh well try tomorrow at school.' I commented in my head as I begged my legs to move in the opposite direction of my crush's house. The sound of the door sliding away pulled my attention back to reality. The boy I'd been waiting for stood in the doors threshold gesturing me inside.
"Hey. Sorry I was on the other side of the house, come in." He moved so that the door guided my way into his home and my feet pulled me inside.
"So." I breathed following the boy down a hallway and into what I assumed was his room. The neatness of it hit even the tiniest detail and I was almost impressed, no way in 100 years would my room look this good.
"So." He added back closing the door behind him and resting on his bed. My heart beat quickened and I hoped he couldn't hear it like I could. "You know you don't have to stand there like that." His comment sent a rush of heat to my cheeks. I hadn't even noticed I was awkwardly standing in the middle of his room.
"Right sorry. Um, I brought this stuff for the project I'm not sure-" I began and the words caught in my throat as he moved gracefully to a set of papers in a folder next to his bed. He gestured for me to sit next to him as he opened the folders contents. Every detail was so exact. The paper work for it at least was perfect. Though I wouldn't expect any less from my partner.
"This looks amazing! We don't have to do much more except finish putting this stuff together!" I cheered as I finished pulling my bags contents out on his bed. "We'll get an a for sure." I smiled at him relaxing a bit. He looked down at his work and then we started pulling pieces of info from the sheets of paper.
"Hey, Todoroki, I thought we were filling out our halves of the essay explaining how our family's influenced us." I asked reading his half of the essay. He nodded in agreement.
"Yes I did." He motioned to the few lines scrawled across the paper in neat handwriting.
"You didn't write anything about your dad on here? Isn't he like the second hero to All Might?" I asked my curiosity consuming my better judgment. The room filled with a silence so deep I thought I would drown. His face dropped and he continued to work hastily on the task at hand. Keeping his heterochromic eyes averted from mine. An uneasy feeling washed over me and I hastily tried to pull my foot from my mouth. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said anything. It looks great."
He paused for a moment like he was mulling something over in his head. "No you didn't know, my dad and I dont exactly have the best father son relationship." His voice was calm and steady and it eased the tension a bit.
"I'm sorry that really sucks." I looked down at the papers in my hand, my mind fumbled over words to say. Nothing came out. Quite filled the space once more. He spoke softly and explained everything he'd gone through and why it bothered him. My heart sank as I intently listened and I ached to soothe him in some way. But I wasn't sure what to even say to him.
"You know, you're nothing like him right?" I asked finally gaining the courage to speak. I moved a few of the finished pieces of our project back into my bag. He stirred next to me and I wasn't sure if I'd made him uncomfortable or not but words continued to flow from my lips. "You're the sweetest guy I've ever met todoroki, your thoughtful, talented, smart, cool...." My voice trailed away and my cheeks burned. "And I'm still talking wow... okay... anyway.." I quickly added the last few pieces of the project into the bag and stood up. The heat from my cheeks was so intense the only thing I wanted to do was crawl under a rock. "So projects done, I'll throw the last few pieces together at home and yeah.. it's getting late i should probably go." The words fell from my lips and I tried not to make eye contact. 'I'm so stupid, Don't look at his face.dont look at his face. He must think I'm an idiot' my mind replayed the words over and over again.
I pulled the bag onto my shoulder as I turned for the door. Todoroki followed swiftly behind me as I reached for the handle.
"(Y/N) wait." He was so close. "Hold on just a second." My fingertips just barley meeting the handle. His right arm landed firmly on the wall next to me, his Ice danced across the doors frame holding it shut. A chill ran down my spine and I could feel the coolness of his breath on my neck. I turned slightly, his face just inches from mine. I traced the expression of his features, so much pain behind those eyes and something else something I couldn't quite make out. We stood in silence a moment, my heart hammering against my chest. "Did you mean that?" He sounded so unsure like he'd never heard anything like that in his life.
I swallowed hard trying to find the words.
"Every word." Paused gathering up the courage to continue. "Look.... I like you okay like a lot..." I breathed still staring into his eyes. He was so intense and yet so calm all at the same time. The feeling of being small over whelmed me as I waited in anticipation for what was to come. Was he mad? Did I say something wrong? Questions filled my mind to the brim and I stood as still as I could. "If I made you uncomfortable I'm really really sorry, I didn't mean-" I fumbled over my words a small smile spread across his face.
"Can I kiss you?" A small blush covered his cheeks and I couldn't find the words to speak. Shock covered my being.
"...what..?" I breathed staring up at him.
"I asked if I could kiss you." He repeated leaning in slightly. My heart skipped a bit and I moved without thinking pressing my lips against his soft ones. He was cool and warm all at the same time. It was comforting and exciting all in one and he pulled me closer removing his hand from the wall. A touch of cold bit at my lips and I parted them allowing the kiss to deepen. We broke apart to catch our breath, still holding on to each other. I breathed the cool sensation away, my breath visible in the room, and smiled up at him.
"Thank you." He breathed down at me. I could physically feel his heart pounding in his chest. The warmth he gave off soon consumed the room and the ice from the door could be heard cracking then melting away. "Sorry about the door." He added before pulling my face to his once again.
