Chapter 16

I watch as he scrambles around the room to finish packing my bag for me, since he insisted on me staying in bed. I have to admit though, my ankles are swollen , and I'm not looking forward to the long walk ahead of me.

"Peeta, just calm down, you have double checked my bag three times already." I say nonchalantly, hoping to calm him down. Of course it doesn't work, and he continues to scurry around the room to make sure I have everything.

"I'm just packing for everything. Making sure you have all for prenatal items, that lotion you like sometimes, some clothes for the baby IF she comes while you are gone, which we are hoping doesn't happen, and this.." He says, pulling a stuffed bunny from the closet.

"What is this?" I ask, obviously curious as to why I am bringing a stuffed rabbit with me into the wilderness. He grins at me, and walks the rest of the distance to the bed.

"Just... Squeeze it."

So, I do as I'm told, and squeeze the bunny ever so slightly, and I'm surprised when Peeta's voice rims though the room.

"Daddy loves you, baby. Just in case I'm not there when you make your grand entrance into this world, you will still be able to recognize my voice. I love you so much."

By the time his voice cuts out, the tears are welled up in my eyes, and I simply lay the bear down, and throw my arms around him. He wraps his arms around me in return, and nuzzles his face into the crook of my neck.

I'm the first to pull away, but I pull away just far enough to press my lips to his, setting a fire off in the pit of my stomach. I immediately scoot to sitting in front of him, and slide my arms around his neck.

After a few minutes, we hear a loud crash from downstairs, and Peeta bolts away from me to see what is the cause of the noise. I waddle behind him, and pass Tris storming up the steps, and slamming the door behind her. My eyes get wide as I see Tobias walking down the stairs to help Caleb with his gushing nose. Peeta is next, quickly followed by me.

"What did you do this time?" Tobias asks, handing Caleb a cold rag. He thankfully grabs it, and begins dabbing his nose, wincing occasionally.

"I just called her Beatrice and.." But he didn't finish his sentence before he got cut off by Tobias' laughter filling the room. All eyes shift towards him, and his chuckles begin to die out, the crinkles on the sides of his eyes still remaining.

"Big mistake on your part." He says, earning a small glare from Caleb.

"Yeah, well I didn't know that, and I got punched for it. Anyways, I will be leaving in the morning."

I'm a bit stunned since he is leaving because of a simple punch in the nose. I have seen and had worse. I shake my head, and walk past the group into the kitchen. I grab a glass from the cabinet, and fill it with water at the sink. Right as I'm about to leave and rejoing everyone else, it hits me like a ton of bricks. I grab the sink, and squeeze my eyes shut.

"Katniss!!" I hear her frail voice scream my name, and I continue to run towards her. Something grabs my ankle, restricting me from running any further. I shake my ankle to try and release it.

I look down and see that it was Peeta grabbing at my feet, slowly clawing his way up my leg. I scream in pain as his nails dig into my calf muscle, and try yet again to kick him off. He digs his nails further into me, causing the flow of blood to cascade down my leg.

Eventually, I kick him in the face, resulting in my release, and I quickly make my escape. I run until Prim is in sight, but I'm stopped yet again by someone clawing their way up my leg. This time I see Snow and Coin, but they are both already pulling me down. As I descend down into the unknown hole below me, a loud boom occurs, and a large cloud of smoke consumes Prim.

"NO!" I scream, and let my body collapse to the ground, Covering my ears, hoping to rid myself of the reoccurring sound of the boom.

And with my luck, Coin and Snow have now clawed their way to my shoulders, dragging me into the black abyss.

"Katniss! Katniss, are you alright?!" Peeta says, shaking me awake from my nightmare. I face him with wide eyes, and begin shaking. My knees seem to collapse just like the did in my nightmare, and the tears release.

I feel his arms wrap around me, he lifts me from the ground. I'm still shaking, and crying slightly, but I can still hear him say to the rest of the crowd that he would see them in the morning.

He carries me up the stairs, and lays me in bed, swaddling me in the blanket. He crawls in next and wraps his arms around me. A sweet kiss is placed on my forehead, and the fuzz of sleep starts to overtake me.

"Always." He says, and everything goes dark.

I'm so sorry guys! It's been to long! I have been super busy, but I should be able to update more frequently now! Next chapter will start the "adventure"! Get hyped! And sorry for the short sucky chapter!
