mid june, 1992

me and el were on a walk around town, casually talking about everything that came to mind

it was a hot day, so we decided to get some ice cream

'i brought my polaroid so we should take some pictures!' el said as we got our ice cream,

well she got her ice cream, because i ended up getting a milkshake

we sat down outside as she took a picture of me

we waited for it to dry as we ate our snacks

'ooh you look good in it, vic! i'm keeping it in my wallet!' el said as she put it away and i smiled

'sooo, el; how's it going with the good old boys?' i asked her, making conversation as we ate

'y'know, same as usual; no luck!' she said while we both laughed

'same, el' i said but then she gave me a look as if i was lying

'oh please! i know there's something brewing between you and mr tozier again!!' she said to me

i laughed sarcastically,'are you out of your mind? we kissed that one time, he invited me to a party he never even showed up at and i haven't seen him since! if that's what you think love is then you need to know thats not it, sweetie!'

she gave me another smug look,'victoria. he did show up, and he drove you home, and you guys slept in the same bed because you asked him to!'

i was shocked,'who told you that?!' i asked with panic in my voice

i hadn't told anyone about that night

'little mr richie called me the day after making sure you were okaaaay'

i face palmed,'oh well, now ya know'

'speak of the devil' el said and winked as i turned to look at the black convertible that had just parked in front of us

well now i know that richie has a car

he didn't come out of the car, but rolled down the window

'hey vic' he said, sunglasses on the bridge of his nose, slipping down,

i smiled,'hey, nice car'

he smiled back and then nodded and said,'el'

she nodded back and winked at the two of us

'a little birdie told me you two'd be here' richie said with a slight smirk

i looked over at el and could immediately tell it was her

she had that cheeky smile on her face

i looked at richie again, him smiling at me,'wanna go for a ride, vic? i was thinking we could get lunch somewhere?'

'richie tozier, are you asking me out on a date?' i asked him as i packed my things up, getting ready to go with him

'perhaps, miss harrington; so what do ya say?'

'perhaps, i'd love to' i said as we both smiled

as i got in on the other side and richie started to drive away, i waved to say goodbye to el

she smiled at me and waved back before yelling,'use protection!'

i gasped and then laughed as richie took the covers down from the car and i put on my red heart shaped sunglasses

'hearts for me, miss harrington?' richie asked as he looked at me with a smile

'never' i playfully said back

he smiled at me as he kept his eyes on the road

after about twenty minutes we arrived at a huge field

richie looked at me and grabbed a basket and a blanket from the backseat,'picnic for two?'

'of course,' i answered

after the lunch richie had brought was eaten, me and richie laid down on the picnic blanket

my head was on his stomach as my eyes were closed, enjoying the peace

'vic,' richie spoke up

we both sat up,'yeah, rich'

'you mean a lot to me,' he smiled

'thank you,' i answered, also with a smaller smile

we sat close to each other, and found ourselves leaning in

and there, on that field on a hot mid-june summer day,

was the rekindling of a romance that never should have ended
