Alyssa's POV:
*FLASHBACK*
My mom strutted up to the stage and grabbed the mic from the DJ. "And now" she announced, "please give it up for Miss Alyssa Maria Montoya Alejandra Guadalupe Ivanna Felicia Vantez as she shares a dance with her father!" I stepped out of the curtain in my aqua blue gown (http://www.polyvore.com/xscape_one-shoulder_jewel-trim_gown/thing?id=104346933). I saw my dad grinning at me like an idiot with an outstretched hand wearing the tux I've seen in the wedding pictures. I started slow dancing with him and I forgot about everything wrong in my life. I treasured the moment I was having. My Quinceneara. I'd been waiting for this moment since forever. As the slow dance finished, I smiled at my dad before going to chat with Ross. The hours passed and we finally went home. And for once in a long time, my mom and dad didn't fight. It felt like a fairy tale to me. But there's one problem with fairy tales. They never come true. I woke up the next morning to see a folded piece of paper sitting on my nightstand. My dad's scrawly handwriting was on the front. It said:
To My Darling Alyssa.
I slowly unfolded the paper:
To: *Mi Corazon.
My sweetheart. All I can do is apologise. I am sorry to say that your mother and I are no more. We had our differences and we aren't good for each other. I hope you can understand. I must go back home. You can still visit me whenever you like. Just call me and I will send you on the first plane to Spain. I love you and I will never forget you. I just hope you don't forget me either.
**Usted siempre estará en mi corazón, mi amor.
I read and re-read the note with a tear rolling down my cheek. I laughed uncontrollably to disguise my hurt and upset before ripping the note to shreds and throwing it out of my bedroom window. I furiously wiped my eyes and deleted my dad's number from my phone before going back to sleep.
Happy Birthday, Alyssa.
*END OF FLASHBACK*
I woke up in a cold sweat, remembering my fifteenth birthday. Ugh. I don't need to remind myself of that selfish prick. I walked down to the kitchen to make some waffles. I made mine with syrup and I shoved it down my throat quickly. I put the leftovers in the refrigerator for Tori. I suddenly realised that I was supposed to be meeting Luke. I hopped in the shower and brushed my teeth at the same time which ended up in me spending 30 minutes trying to get my toothbrush out of the drain.
I blow dried my hair and loosely braided it. I wore a maxi dress and slippers. I left a note for Tori who was still sleeping. Lazy ass. I stepped out of the house and hailed a cab since my car had probably been towed. Eh, I'll get it later. I stepped into the cab and told the driver the address. He just laughed at me. He turned around to face me and said: "You know that's where the rich kids live, right?"
"Yes, I know that." I sighed.
"So what are you gonna be doing there, then?" the nosy driver asked.
"If that was any of your business, I wouldn't have told you anyway. Now step on it." I snapped.
He finally shut up and drove. Twenty minutes later, we pulled up outside a massive complex. I breathed in deeply before opening the door. The driver cleared his throat.
"What?!" I snapped.
"Pay me." he said rudely.
As I slapped a twenty dollar note into his hand, he said, "Ya know, you could pay me in more ways than one.." wiggling his eyebrows.
"Go piss on yourself, you disgusting asshole." I sassed, before leaving the cab and slamming the door. I walked up to the gate and entered the code that Luke texted me. The gate slowly opened and I ran in before it closed again. I knocked on the door and Mike came to the door. He smiled immediately.
"Hey Alyssa! Luke's inside with the guys and Abby and Aliyah are with them."
I smiled at him in return and stepped inside.
The house was huge and it took me about ten minutes to find which living room the gang were in. As soon as I stepped in, everyone smiled at me and Luke stood up with his arms open, expecting a hug. I walked over to him and slapped him hard across the face, making sure it left a mark.
"Ow!" He yelled. "What was that for?!"
"That was for kissing me yesterday, douchebag." I stated sweetly.
Everyone snickered quietly and looked at Luke and I. After a long awkward silence, Luke said, "Um, Alyssa? Can I talk to you in the other room for a minute?" jerking his head towards the door. I raised an inquisitive eyebrow at him before nodding.
Luke's POV:
This is it. This is the day I'm gonna ask her out. I'm gonna do it. I will. I opened the door for Alyssa and she smiled at me awkwardly as she sat down in a chair. Man, she's pretty... Shut up, conscience! Don't start drooling over her now! I just stood there like an idiot smiling at her before she said, "Don't you wanna sit down?"
"Oh yeah!" I said, mentally face palming myself. I sat down on the chair facing opposite her. I took a deep breath and said, "So, Alyssa.... I was wondering if maybe you'd like to go out some time? Just the two of us?"
Alyssa blinked with a plain expression on her face before 'Teenage Dirtbag' started playing from her purse. Her phone was ringing. Great.
"Sorry, I have to take this" she apologised before rushing out of the room.
Alyssa's POV:
I looked at the caller ID to see that it was an Unknown Number. I answered it anyway.
"Hello?" I said
"Oh, Alyssa! Thank goodness you answered. It's me, your dad."
The last word made me drop my phone on the ground. What is it with assholes popping out of nowhere in my life?
I scrambled to pick up the phone.
"Yes, dad?" I said as politely as possible trying not to lose my temper with the prick.
"Oh, Alyssa! I'm so happy to hear your voice! I've missed you so much!" he said.
"Well, if you missed me so much than you should have called me." I snapped
"Alyssa, I'm so sorry. But I want to ask you something. I want you to be bridesmaid at my wedding."
Hold up. Bridesmaid? Wedding? Ohhhhhh he's gone and done it now.
"Bridesmaid, dad? Really?" I questioned. "So, within the two years since you left us, you found a girl, dated her, proposed to her and let me guess, you've probably knocked her up as well!"
"Alyssa, don't talk to me like that. I'm your father, I deserve respect." He ordered.
"RESPECT?!!! You're a fine one to talk about respect! You had no respect for me when you left me a NOTE telling me you were leaving on my BIRTHDAY!!!" I spat.
"Alyssa, please listen to me-" he started.
"No, you shut up and you listen dad!" I screamed angrily. "I spent the last two years waiting to hear a phone call from you, and you finally have the nerve to come and speak to me NOW?!!! I don't care who you're marrying, cause I'm not being a bridesmaid, and I'm not coming to your wedding. And for the record, let me tell you something: when it comes to respect, you ain't worth shit." Then I hung up the phone. I smashed my phone against the wall and broke down crying.
