Yugi sat there, suddenly a hell of a lot more calm than when he first walked into the building. He had actually enjoyed this exam. The friendly atmosphere and the welcoming feelings that came with the doctor who quizzed him almost made the exam quite...fun.
Yugi mentally sighed, all of his tensity fading with the breath that left his body. Now, all that he had to do was wait for those results.
He hoped he would have been accepted. If he wasn't, he didn't know if he would be offered any other chances as good as this one. If he was...he wondered who would be his teacher. He wondered if he would enjoy himself at this hospital...
He sat still, relaxed as the ticking of the clock on the wall over him drifted into his ears.
One more step finished.
Now...to wait.
After a few moments, Yugi heard the door open again and Sennen entered once more, a wide smile on his face.
Seeing his eyes glow like that made Yugi smile as well. He watched as Sennen sat back down in his chair, setting down the paper. He folded his hands again underneath his chin and looked at Yugi.
"Well, we got some really good news!" He declared, looking away from the clip board and toward Yugi, "You were accepted into apprenticeship!!"
Yugi struggled not to jump up and cheer. He hoped for this to happen and it did! It was the thing he had studied and waited for for years! And it finally came true! Yugi strained to remain seated and to only smile back at the doctor.
Sennen smirked and raised an eyebrow.
"Don't strain yourself too much now." He chuckled, "Celebrate if you wanna, but don't be too loud. I have that problem just like you."
Yugi laughed. But soon, the laughter died down and he looked back at Sennen. He tilted his head to the side, one last question tugging at his mind that he was itching to ask.
"Who am I the apprentice of?" He inquired, raising an eyebrow.
Sennen looked back at the clipboard, obviously ecstatic as much as Yugi was. But Yugi wasn't too sure why he was as excited as he was. That is, until he looked up again.
"Me." He said, standing up and holding out his hand, "Hello, apprentice of mine!"
Yugi couldn't help but let his jaw drop. He was the apprentice of a doctor he had just met and seemed to become fond of immediately. Sennen seemed like a respectable doctor. He had a great sense of humor, was laid back and collected, and above all, he made Yugi feel good about his job.
Yugi unconsciously reached out and shook his hand, standing up.
"Hello, Dr. Sennen!" Yugi returned.
Sennen eyed him once again.
"Dr. Sennen? Please. He's my father who died several years ago." Yami swatted the air, "My name is Yami. Just call me Yami."
"Oh." Yugi smiled again, shaking his hand, "My name is Yugi. Just call me Yugi."
Yami nodded, "Nice to meet you. I can tell you will be quite the apprentice to have around!" He laughed.
"I try to be that way!" Yugi mused.
Yami and Yugi let go of each other's hands. Yami walked for the door and opened it, looking back at Yugi over his shoulder, his smile slowly turning into a half grin.
"Where are you going?" Yugi asked him, confused.
"Why, you're coming with me, of course. We gotta go get your apprentice uniform!" He looked back at Yugi, anxiously waiting for him.
Yugi suddenly broke into a run and ran to the door way, but stopped and walked calmly out once he met Yami's side. Yami chuckled at the burst of movement from the young doctor. The two walked down the hallway, Yami with his hands in his pockets and Yugi with his heart pounding fiercely in hsi chest. He had only just taken the entrance examination and now, about an hour after he had first arrived at the hospital, he was getting his uniform!
It was all going by so quickly!
He looked slightly down, deep in thought. He could remember all those years he studied for the day. He pulled countless all-nighters in haste for failing a test he had on the next day. He had made many new friends, but the main ones he had, were the ones he stayed with from High School.
Tea who was now a teacher.
Joey who was now an attorney.
Tristan who was a very profitable mechanic and inventor.
Ryou who was a translator of many different languages.
They all wrote letters to each other each week after graduating college and they would even cross each other on the street every now and again, engaging in conversations for hours on end. They all knew he was gonna be successful, but Yugi was too humble to ever get his hopes up.
Yami noticed how his apprentice was being so quite, so he decided to spark a conversation.
"So, why are you so quiet?" He asked, his hands still in his pockets.
"Huh?" Yugi looked up at him, "Oh. I was...I was just thinking..."
"Thinking?" Yami looked further at him, tilting his head, "What were you thinking about?"
Yugi shrugged.
"Just...college friends." He said, "They all began careers before me, but they always said I would get this job. But...I could never really get my hopes up about anything..."
Yami put a hand on his shoulder, the other remaining in his other pocket.
"Well then! Now you can get your hopes up!" He smiled, "You made it and that's what matters! The hard part is done and now, all you need to do is what you prepared for your entire life!"
Yugi looked up at him and smiled, locking gazes with him again.
"Yeah. You're right!"
