Negative Tug

Rubbing my eyes I rolled out of bed. Today was the infamous Friday. Why wasn't I excited? Oh wait, I should be.

As I clambered down the stairs I licked my lips that still burned from my spearmint toothpaste. I opened the fridge at least twice to confirm that I did not know what to have for breakfast. Disappointed I reached for the milk and served myself cereal.

The sun was already high in the sky by the time I finished washing dishes and made it back upstairs.

Before I even managed to pull my old tshirt off my phone rang. Taking a few steps I snatched up my phone to see on the caller id that it was Lenox.

"Well hello my friend." I answered not waiting for her to reply I continued,"Party tonight right?"

"Um yeah of course," she replied indifferent,"Have you decided what you're wearing?"

"If I did I would have told you already,"groaning I added,"Why is this do hard?"

"Just bring a bunch of stuff so you can decide after you come over..."

"I will! But I also have to decide what TO bring to decide ON!" I was so exasperated I decided to change the subject,"How was soccer training?" I asked.

"Soccer training was soccer training." Lenox responded.

Sighing I decided that I needed a shower,"Well, I'll text you when I'm headed over."

"Yeah ok, bye Angel."

"Bye!"

I clicked the end button and tossed my phone on my bed before grabbing my towel.

The shower served its purpose. I stepped out refreshed and ready to deal with anything the day decided to throw at me.

I pulled on my usual blue denim shorts and a loose black shirt after moisturizing my skin. I collected my sunglasses, house keys and phone all while slipping on my flip flops to meet my mom at the door.

I had to volunteer this morning which I was not looking forward to, yet it was my last day!

Once the four grueling hours of dealing with three years old concluded I was able to go home.

Lunch passed just as fast and before I knew it I had my duffel bag over my shoulder and I was walking up Lenox's front steps.

I let myself in and took my shoes off at the door before following her upstairs.

"What did you bring?" She asked as I made my way to her bed across the room.

Even though her room was the same size as mine, her room lay out made it look much bigger.

"Some tank tops and skirts. Do you think I should go with the grey tank and black skirt or navy blue tank top and the same black skirt. Maybe neither?" I asked thoughtfully tugging on my duffel bag zipper.

"Definitely the first outfit you said. It's simple and those shoes look great with it." Her back was turned while she pulled her own outfit out of the closet.

"Angel, you watch that new show right?"

"Yes! Lenox, do I look right in this?" My eyebrows furrowed as I waited for her response.

"I love that show so much! And yes I really like that. Your skin tone is perfect!" She compliments annoyed.

"Lenox you have a little cuban in you, bring it out!" She was half black and cuban which gave her a light milk chocolate skin tone which was richer than my caramel one. I personally loved it.

"Angel shut up. The boys always look at you."

Trying to be humble I ignored the comment and began to organize my duffel bag. In my rush to get everything I made a mess of my duffel bag and had just thrown it in the car.

Lenox's sister peeked from behind the door and smiled.

"Awh party time! Guys are you ready?"

Applying the rest of my mascara I nodded to Lenox and followed her out the door.

Tonight was going to be great. I just felt it, but I couldn't help but frown at the negative tug I felt in my stomach that was telling me otherwise.
