Of course, as I had groaned, slowly waking up, my foot began to throb. Stupid duffel bag. I had passed out in Lenox's bed with Eileen on the floor in a nest of pillows and blankets. Her limbs lay askew. I grabbed my phone and checked my notifications.
Surprise. Surprise. I had several.
The first few were from random friends I texted on the daily. Then pictures of last night from Eileen, but shortly after, one from Zander.
And all his stupid friends.
"Lenoxxxxxxxx."
"Whhhhattt?!"
"Did you get put in this group chat last night?"
"Umm let me check." pause.. "wtf, yeah. We were asleep I guess."
"Yeah, the guys seem to want to hang out...again...soon."
"Guys..."
"Yes Eileen?"
"I think it's more like now."
"WHAT."
We both looked down at her from the bed and glared.
"I got a text!"
"From which one of these cheap, hot, cocky assholes?!"
She paused and looked down at her phone momentarily before replying.
"Mason."
Suddenly we moved off the bed towards her and the phone in her hands.
"OMGGGG."
"I KNEW HE LIKED YOU."
"I saw him CHECKING YOU OUT THE WHOLE TIME."
"HAVE YOU KISSED?"
"I BET YOU DIDDDDDD!"
The babbling went on until she finally yelled over us.
"SHUT UP. Nothing is happening!"
She huffed loudly and sighed, almost disappointed.
"It was just a text..."
We waited as her voice trailed off.
"...with a lot of heart emojis?!"
The babbling started all over again, until Lenox's sister entered the room.
"Lenox has training...so go eat and get dressed."
Sluggishly we moved from the floor into the bathroom one by one and got dressed.
After texting my mom about Eileen staying over tonight until Lenox could come over and we hang out, I texted Zander back.
"Hey, we fell asleep last night before we saw the texts. Maybe we can hang out again... 🙊"
"You're good beautiful and that sounds great, what's good?"
"Leaving Lenox's house, going to mine."
"Are you all free for lunch to hit up the mall?"
"I'll have to ask, I don't know if I can, but we'll see."
"Just let me know😏"
After reading the text, I finished eating the scrabbled eggs Lenox had made for us and grabbed my duffel bag.
As Lenox and her sister left, my mom pulled up and picked us up.
"Did you guys have a nice time?"
"Yeah, thanks for picking us up." Eileen smiled at me. She had spoken to Mason I guess too.
"Hey mom, what are we doing today?"
"Umm, I don't know, why?"
"Well, after Lenox's training, I was wondering if we could all go to the mall for lunch and just shop...hang out for a few hours?"
"Jeez, you guys aren't tired of each other yet?"
Eileen and I laughed before looking back towards my mom waiting for a reply.
"Yeah, I mean I guess that's fine...who's taking you."
"I think Lenox's sister."
"Ok, well just have them pick you guys up from our house or something."
"Thanks ma."
Smirking back at Eileen with a knowing smile, I texted her.
"Ready to meet with the boys again?"
"Yeah of course!"
"I'll text Lenox, should I invite a few others?"
"I got it covered."
After I texted Lenox the game plan, I let Eileen ask some other girls from school and tried to predict how to afternoon would play out.
