Astrid hears a chirp and she lifts her head from her hands, which by now had a puddle in the dip of her palms, to find a small white dove fall from the tree that she was leaning against. The bird at first screeched for help, it's caw full of fear, but it's parents or whoever it was calling to didn't save it. Eventually, it gave up and started looking for a way to get back on the tree. It started by trying to hop up the tree while using it's beak as an anchor, but about halfway up the tree, it's beak slipped from it's hold, and the poor bird fell. After ten tries, the bird was finally able to climb a fallen branch up to it's previous perch. Astrid admired the bird and its persistence. This bird was able to climb the tree, even though it took so many tries. I must be a sign of hope! I shouldn't be crying her like a sitting duck! I should start looking for ways to get back home! Or, maybe I can look for some food, I'm starving. she thought. She got up the muddy floor, brushing off the leaves and excessive mud from her clothes, and started searching for food in the rubble that surrounded her.
