Astrid and her parents climbed onto the plane, cringing at every creak that they heard, afraid that the unstable staircase would collapse and they would have the energy to save themselves. As they finally boarded the plane, they fell into their chars as an air hostess walked in the aisle, handing out peanuts while asking if people wanted something to drink.
Astrid started eating her peanuts before a loud muffled voice blared from the nearby speakers. "Ladies and gentlemen, we are about to take off. Please fasten your seatbelts and we hope you have a fantastic flight aboard Southwest Airlines!"
Astrid watched through her window as the plane's wheels slowly lifted off the ground, and soon they were amidst the clouds.
She leaned into the window, pressing a soft hand onto the cold glass. She whispered softly, so only she would hear what she was saying, "Good-bye, Puerto Rico. You will forever be my home."
