Hey, so this chapter is kinda just leading up to the fight scene. Just a heads up - big battle does not start in this chapter. Sorry!

~ December <3

Jay had convinced everyone to sleep to get as much rest as possible before the big battle, because she knew that Ash wouldn't attack unless it directly affected her. She stayed up all night, though, modifying her uniform to withstand the freezing touch of a Frost Giant. It was a chore, sure, but she eventually got it done on Tony's armor, along with everyone else's uniforms. Basically, she just added a layer of antifreeze that would be released once a sensor is triggered - saying that the suit or armor is too cold. This was a bit tricky for Nat's suit, as it was skin tight, but she was able to do it.

The next morning, everyone was unsurprisingly quiet as they were suiting up to get ready for the fight. Jay was finished first, and chose to sit in the hangar beside a jet that was painted pitch black with golden lines on the edges of each metal plate. She sat there for around ten minutes, her hands over her face as she struggled to keep her breathing normal, before she felt someone sit down beside her. She opened her eyes, expecting to see Tony, but instead was pleasantly surprised to see Loki - decked out in full Asgardian armor, helmet and all.

"You seem nervous?" He asked quietly, a tone of genuine concern laced in his words. For an evil god, he seemed pretty nice.

"Well, why shouldn't I be? I mean, whenever I've gone up against Ash, I always last long enough just to let everyone escape to safety. I've never won a fight, and that's terrifying, since this time he has a bloody army." She ran a hand through her hair, her breathing becoming ragged as her eyes pulsed red.

"You'll be alright. You have a whole team of superheroes behind you, after all." She smiled up at him, and began to lean forward. He did the same, but they were promptly interrupted by someone clearing their throat loudly.

"Don't, please." It was Tony. She rolled her eyes with a blush evident on her cheeks, standing up as the rest of the Avengers walked in. "So, which jet are we taking?"

"This one." She motioned back to the gold and black one, stepping aside as the team made their way up the ramp and into the jet, except for Tony, who moved to stand beside Jay. "Clint, this jet has most of the weapons from SHIELD's jets on it, but just ask GLITCH if you need help." They were taking separate jets, as once they entered New York, Ash would most likely open up the portal to attack. Jay and Loki would be taking a jet together to fly right into the portal - no matter if the wings got torn off - as they would need all the weapons and cannon fire that they could get.

"You sure you want to go, kid?" Tony asked, giving her a sad look as to plead with her to stay out of the fight.

"Dad, I'll be fine." His armor was in his briefcase, so she was free to throw her arms around his waist. This might be the last time she ever saw him. Hopefully not, though. As the two pulled away, she looked up into his eyes with a small smile. "I forgive you for everything." Tears formed in her eyes, but she was quick to wipe them away.

"Thanks, but don't make it sound like you aren't coming out of this, please." Tony kissed her forehead, staring at her for a few more seconds before hesitantly walking up the ramp into the jet. The ramp raised into the back of the plane, closing it off to all outsiders.

"We're taking the silver one." She led Loki over to the all silver jet, walking up the ramp into it and motioning for him to sit down in one of the seats as she moved to the pilot's chair. I'll skip the details, because the ride into New York was rather boring and quiet, but once they made it into the city, she heard a crackling over her comm before a voice.

"Alright, I'm picking up an energy surge on top of that apartment building." It was Nat. Jay narrowed her eyes as she looked through the glass windshield, the screen inside her jet picking up the readings as well. "What's our play?" That was Steve. No one else seemed to be taking control, so she spoke up.

"We'll do it how we discussed. The Frost Giants will be pouring out of the portal to get to New York, so you don't need to keep them out of our way. Just keep civilians safe, take out as many as you can, and keep each other safe." She paused, glancing back at Loki to see him with his head in his hands. "I've modified each of your suits to have antifreeze deposits sewn into them...if any area of your suit gets too cold, the chemical will be sent to the area to hopefully fend off the subzero temperatures. Of course, it won't last very long, but it'll be long enough to kill the giant before it can do any severe damage."

Suddenly, on top of the building, red sparks began to fly in every direction as a black hole started to grow out of seemingly nothing. She held her breath, watching as Clint dropped off the Avengers on the ground from the jet. She was relieved to see more SHIELD jets in the distance, but she still felt like her lungs were collapsing in on themselves with anxiety. It felt as though a hand was wrapped around her heart and was trying to squeeze the life out of her.

Then, the first Frost Giant ran out. It was gunned down almost immediately by several bullets and repulser blasts from Tony, but it was soon followed by hundreds of giants practically throwing themselves out of the portal. With the chaos soon ensuing, she shakily moved a hand to grip onto a lever, saying perhaps her last words to the Avengers. As soon as she entered the portal, the signal would be cut off.

"I'll see you on the other side." She pushed the lever forward, the rockets on the back of the jet being pushed to full power as the whole plane shot forward and went straight through the portal.
