why is this book named lemons?

lemons are yellow, sour and sweet.
when I was a child I asked my mom one day if I could paint my walls yellow, she replied with a confused no, I asked her why and she simply said, "Yellow is a sad colour, the saddest yet, if you'd paint a child's room yellow they would make her cry every morning."
there on out my life was like a lemon, yellow, sour and sweet.
