She watches as the two boys expertly maneuver the people on the screen around. Her eyelids becoming heavy with the passing hours. Luke and Michael have been playing video games for far too long. The clock on the wall reads midnight. “Dude, is it really midnight?” Luke notices. “I should probably go, I work in the morning.” Michael stops the game, putting the controller down. He walks the lanky blonde to the door.

“See ya man. I’ll text you about hanging out again.”

“Sounds good. Bye Rose.” She mumbles from the couch something inaudible. Michael closes the door and rejoins her.

“You guys have a cute bromance already.” Rose smiles, with her eyes still closed, almost asleep.

“Shut up. Do not!” He lightly shoves her causing her eyes to open. “Do you want to stay over?” She nods, knowing she doesn’t have the energy to drive home. “C’mon.” He stands and offers his hands to help her up. Rose’s tiny hands fit in Michael’s perfectly, like a key in a lock. He leads her back to his room, kicking open the door with his boot. “I’m a little messy, sorry.” That much she could tell. Clothes littered the floor along with various other objects. Much like in Luke’s room in the corner of Michael’s sat an acoustic guitar.

            “You play?”

“A little. I’m not so good.” He absent mindedly grabs a shirt and a pair of sweats for her to sleep in. “Do you play?” He asks trying to avert his eyes as she changes. Rose opts out on the sweatpants, letting his old faded Rolling Stones t-shirt fall mid thigh.

“Luke started teaching me before everything got bad, but I just started teaching myself.” She says proudly. “Will you play for me?”

“Only if you play for me,” Michael smirks hoping she would back down.

“When I practice a bit more.” Rose crawls into Michael’s bed and he follows, bringing her close to his body.

“How was your weekend?” Ashton asks Rose the next day at work. She smiles to herself remembering the events.

            “Good. How was yours?”

“Ok, I guess. So is that guy like your boyfriend now or what?” They were both sat on the floor of the record store putting CD’s in boxes so the store could be renovated.

“I don’t know. But what’s it to you?”

“Just wondering. I mean we are friends right?”

“Yea, I just don’t think it’s a good idea if we talk about that.”

“Fine then.” Ashton seemed annoyed, but Rose could care less. Things were obviously different since they broke up, but he kept asking about Michael. “Um how is AA and stuff going?” He changes the subject completely.

“Good. It’s been like a week and a half. Luke and Michael have been really great with helping.”

“That’s great. You know if you ever need someone like at work to talk to, I’m here.” Ashton give a lopsided smile and shrugs his shoulders.

“Thanks, Ash.” A small smile is given back. For a while the record store is quiet, a side from the occasional noise from stacking plastic CD cases. Upon finding it in the midst of everything, Ashton puts on Hot Fuss by the Killers into the boom box pouring music through the otherwise empty store. “Oh god, this album is classic.” Mr. Brightside blares while the two employees yell the lyrics to no one in particular.
