A/N: Hi! This chapter is probably the first time you'll see a very annoyed MC. This chapter will also give a glimpse of the MC's past. I hope you enjoy this chapter! This duel signals the first encounter with the enemy. I'm calling them kurayami no tengu (Tengu are basically like trolls who can shapeshift. The translation means Trolls of Darkness).
Also, I'm sorry if the duel scene is not that great. I tried my best to work with this deck but I mean I really like it so far. Please let me know if you have any suggestions for the name of the enemy's main leader. When would you like Bastion to realize and confess his feelings to the main character?
Happy reading!

Your eyes felt as if they were nonexistent. You asked in a bitter manner, "Why did you come here, Mamoru?" Mamoru Hikazane, he was one of Yuko's pupils. Mamoru said, "I came because Yuko wanted to know if you were okay." Your eyes narrow, "If she wanted to know, why didn't she bring her nonexistent soul here?" He growls, "Watch it, Y/N." You roll your eyes and remark, "If you came here to mock me, then leave. I don't need another person doing that." After a few minutes of debate, Mamoru disappeared.
Bastion noticed a boy around his age roaming around the academy. The Ra Yellow elite hid himself from the mysterious being's line of sight. This made Bastion wonder what was really going on.
You woke up that morning feeling tense. Suku has spoken with the other Kami spirits only hours earlier. You exhale sharply, "That baka was the last person I wanted to see. His loyalty to Yuko is more bitter than the time my mother tried to make coffee for the first time." Benten spoke in a tone of warning, "Y/N-san, that is quite enough." You sigh, "I don't need you to scold me right now." Benten exhales, "This girl..." Izanagi said, "Y/N-san, you are more bitter than usual." You cross your arms, "Meaning?" It was Amaterasu—or Tama as you called her—who spoke up. She said, "Y/N, you've been around Suku for too long." Tama asked, "Why do you hate him?" You cross your arms and reply, "Yuko worships the ground he walks on. I despise him because he forces the other shrines maidens to do his dirty work for him. I don't see what Yuko sees in him. He's nothing more than a manipulative excuse for a human being." You rub your temples and add, "I need to shoot at a target or else I'll lose my mind."
You made your way to the gym. You had taken your bow and quarry with you. You see several targets and begin shooting at them.
Meanwhile, Bastion was heading to the library to study for one of Crowler's daunting tests. He stopped midway there when he notices someone inside of the gymnasium. His eyes widen, "That's Jesse's sister. What is she doing?" He said to himself, "I'm curious now."
You exhale sharply to yourself. You didn't realize that someone had been watching you. You mutter to yourself, "This is the only thing that will calm my nerves." "You're quite good." You stop what you're doing and turn around. You meet the fascinated eyes of Bastion Misawa. You question his expression, "What's with that look?" Bastion ignores the questions and says, "You're an archer." You reply, "Your point?" Before Bastion could speak, he was interrupted by another voice. You both turn to see Jesse's surprised eyes.
Bastion and Jesse sat in the bleachers as they watched you practice. Jesse asked, "Hey sis! You sure you don't need any help?" You answer, "Me? Need help? This is coming from the person who nearly shot his own eyes out when we were small." Jesse's cheeks darken in embarrassment, "H-Hey!! I was just a kid back then!" You clear your throat, "Whatever. Listen, if you want to leave you can." You continue with a look of displeasure, "I'm not playing babysitter for either of you. I only came here to calm my nerves." Jesse remarks, "You needing to calm your nerves?" You roll your eyes, "Can it, jewel boy. At least I can defend myself in a non-clumsy manner." That definitely shut Jesse up.
