Chapter 3

Speak

Carter - I can't believe that just happened . I even got her first

name . Sure I didn't get her last , but I didn't give her my last either . I wanted to speak to her so bad .

But , what if we started talking and she started asking questions . Like questions about my family . I would be screwed . Nobody knew about my family . My dad being a drunk and my mom being a druggie . The only person I had was my sister Gracie . I never let my mom or dad touch her . She was the only person I honestly cared for in that house .

It was another dreadful Monday . I was hoping I would be able to see her , the girl , Elizabeth .

Elizabeth - Monday why do you have to exist .? I ask every Monday . But , maybe today will be different . Maybe , today I'll see the boy , Carter . I can't believe we've been going to the same school all this time and I haven't noticed him . I still don't know what to do though , I can't let him in . I can't let him penetrate my walls . It's taken so long to build them and it'll be too easy to break them down . They've already been broken once , the last time I let someone in . He screwed me over . I was stupid enough to think he cared about me . Then he went and told practically the whole dang school about my 'home situation' . Which of course was my parents always fighting , my mom pinning her anger on me when she couldn't argue with dad . Of course , it was never physical but the words she said to me and about me really hurt . They hurt like a dagger to the heart . I don't see how she could be so cruel to her own daughter . I guess that shows how screwed up this world is . I just hope Carter never gets to see how screwed up I am .

Carter - I escape from the house in the morning without getting caught by my father . Thank God I silently muttered to myself . I got to my car and cranked it . I pulled out of the driveway on the way to heck , oh I meant school . Maybe it will be better , maybe I'll see her . She's so beautiful , I can't believe I haven't noticed her before . Then again , I don't pay attention to anyone . Except my friends , I try to stay out of everyone's business . Well here I am , at dreadful school . I put in my headphones and walk up to school .

Elizabeth - I get ready for school and walk out to my car , back pack on my back and purse in hand . I had a white Volkswagen . It's not the best thing but hey I'm lucky I even got that . I had to get 2 verbal arguments and a glass thrown at my head . I doged but still she could have hit

me . I drive to school and park in my usual spot . I'm walking up to school when I feel a light tap on my shoulder . Turning around , I find it to be my best friend , Melanie . " Heyy Lizzie .! " she says . ( she calls me Lizzie btw ) " Why hello there . " I say back to her . " Ooh your in a ga-rate mood , what happened .? " I look down at my feet . I want to tell her what happened with Carter but I'm still a little shy talking about it .

" Carter . . . " I mumble . She smiles , " Ha , I knew it .! What happened .? Details . Spill . " she said with a determined face . " Well he started sitting at the same bench as me at the park . " She grins and squeals with excitement . I put my finger up to her lips " Shhh , he also goes to school here I don't want to be embarrassed . " She winks at me

" Gotcha , now let's keep an eye out for loverrrrrr boy . " She rolled the r on lover . I blushed and we continued to walk to class . I wonder if we have any classes together .? I silently ask myself . I made a mental note to look for him in all of my classes .

Carter - I go to my locker and wait for the bell to ring . My friend Austin came up to my locker as well .

" Hey . " Austin said . " Hello " I replied . " What's up with you .? " Are you looking for someone .? " he asked . " No , why would you say that . " I said . Of course he thinks I'm looking for someone , I keep peering over his shoulder every five seconds . " Whatever , now tell me who is she .? " He said . " Elizabeth , that girl from the park . She goes to school here . " He looks at me astonished " Woah the girl you've been staring at for like months finally talked to you .?! " he chuckled .
