Six Months Later
Swara's POV
It has been six months since I agreed to be with Rajat, but despite my best efforts, I can't seem to develop real feelings for him. Each time I try to imagine a future with him, my mind drifts to someone else. Why is it so difficult for me to say "I love you" to Rajat? I know I should be happy, especially since my engagement with Rajat is tomorrow, but I can't help feeling that something is missing. I've tried to move on, but my heart is still tangled in the past. I keep asking myself why I can't be content with what I have.
Flashback Begins
Four Months Ago
Swara's POV
I've been with Rajat for two months now, but it feels like I'm living a lie. Whenever I attempt to grow closer to him, my thoughts are persistently pulled back to Sanskar. Today, Sanskar invited me to his birthday party tomorrow, and I'm apprehensive about facing his parents. I have no idea what he has told them about me, and I'm dreading the encounter.

Maheshwari Mansion
The house was being transformed into a grand celebration space. Annapurna was supervising every detail with meticulous care. "The house should look like a palace. It's Sanskar's birthday tomorrow!"
Sanskar, dressed in casual attire, walked down the stairs, clearly uncomfortable with the grandiosity. "Mom, I've told you I don't want a big celebration. A simple gathering with friends and family is enough."
Annapurna sighed, her hands on her hips. "Sanskar, it's a significant birthday. It needs to be celebrated properly."
Laksh entered Swara's cabin, where she was engrossed in her work. "Swara, are you ready for Sanskar's party tomorrow?"
Swara's face brightened. "Absolutely, Laksh. I'm really excited."
Laksh observed her with a hint of concern. How can she hide her pain so well? How can she keep smiling despite her obvious inner turmoil?
Laksh left the cabin, and Swara looked up, tears glistening in her eyes.
Later That Night
Sanskar stood by the window, gazing at the night sky, lost in his thoughts. His phone rang, and he answered it without checking the caller ID.
"Hello."
A soothing, familiar voice came through. "Happy birthday, Sanskar."
Sanskar's heart skipped a beat. "Swara?"
"Yes, I wanted to be the first to wish you," Swara said with warmth.
Sanskar smiled, touched by her gesture. "Thank you, Swara."
"See you at the party," she replied before ending the call.
Both Swara and Sanskar stood by their respective windows, their thoughts intertwined as they looked at the moon.
The Birthday Party
The mansion was filled with guests. Swara arrived with Rajat, while Laksh came with Ragini, and Kavya was accompanied by Sahil.
Kavya approached Sanskar, greeting him with a hug. "Happy birthday, Sanskar!"
"Thank you, Kavya," Sanskar responded, his eyes scanning the room until they fell on Swara, who was standing alone. He made his way over to her.
"Hey, Swara."
Swara greeted him with a smile. "Hey, Sanskar. Happy birthday."
Sanskar's eyes twinkled. "Thank you, and thank you again—for coming and for being the first to wish me. It really made me feel special."
Swara laughed softly. "Don't be so formal."
Sanskar insisted, "No, seriously. Your wish meant a lot to me."
Rajat approached, a polite smile on his face. "Sorry, Sanskar, but may I have a dance with Swara?"
"Of course," Sanskar said, stepping aside.
Rajat extended his hand to Swara, and they began to dance as a romantic song played.
The lyrics resonated:
Dekha hazaron dafa aapko Phir beqarari kaisi hai Sambhale sambhalta nahi ye dil Kuch aap mein baat aisi hai
Sanskar's gaze was fixed on Swara, even as Kavya came to him and took his hand for a dance.
Lekar ijazat ab aap se Saansein ye aati jaati hain Dhoondhe se milte nahi hain hum Bas aap hi aap baaki hain
Swara and Sanskar continued to dance with their respective partners, but their eyes remained locked on each other. When the partners switched, Swara ended up dancing with Sanskar.
Dekha hazaro dafaa aapko Phir beqarari kaisi hai Sambhale sambhalta nahi ye dil Kuch pyar mein baat aisi hai
In each other's arms, they seemed to forget the rest of the world, lost in the intimacy of their dance.
Just then, a voice broke the spell. "Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you."
Swara and Sanskar turned towards the entrance, where a girl stood with a radiant smile.
"Sanskar!" she exclaimed, rushing to him and enveloping him in a hug.
Sanskar's face lit up with a mixture of surprise and joy. "Kavita?"
Swara was stunned, her heart sinking as she looked at Sanskar, confused.
Kavita, holding Sanskar close, said, "I'll explain everything later, Chachi. But please, let me be with Sanskar for now."
Annapurna and Dadi beamed, recognizing Kavita. "Kavita, it's wonderful to see you!"
Swara's eyes filled with tears, and Sanskar, noticing her distress, felt a pang of guilt.
A reporter's voice interrupted the moment. "Who is this girl, and why is she hugging Sanskar?"
Dadi replied, "She is our future daughter-in-law."
Swara was shocked by this revelation, her world shattering in an instant.
In the Garden
Later, Sanskar joined the group in the garden. Laksh, visibly agitated, confronted him. "We've asked you many times, Sanskar. What's going on with your behavior towards Swara? Why haven't you told us the truth? Kavita, you need to explain!"
Swara intervened, her voice calm yet firm. "Let him speak, Laksh. We all want to know what's happening."
Sanskar took a deep breath, preparing to reveal his story.
"This all started when I was in 12th grade," Sanskar began. "Kavita's father was my father's business partner and someone I was very close to. Kavita was my best friend from school.
One stormy night, my father couldn't go for an important file because of the weather, so he sent Kavita's father instead. The next day, I found Kavita at our house, devastated. I learned that her father had died in an accident due to the storm. This event left me deeply resentful towards my father.
After that, I was lost, failing my exams and sinking into depression. Kavita helped me through it, but one day, in a fit of anger, I accidentally pushed her down the stairs. She was hospitalized and fell into a coma. My father made me promise to marry her to ensure she wasn't left alone. I didn't want this, but my parents forced me to comply.
When I met you, Swara, I was drawn to you despite my struggles. I couldn't understand why I was so affected by you. I realized I was falling for you, but I felt trapped by my commitments to Kavita. Even though I tried to distance myself, I found myself drawn to you more and more. I was afraid to hurt you, but the truth is, I love you, Swara."
As Sanskar finished his story, tears streamed down Swara's face. The revelation had left her heartbroken and confused.
