Rain.
It has been too long since the last time we have such an earnest shower in our small town. What do you think about, when you think about rain?
For me, rain recalls simpler times, gentler experiences. It reminds me of rare cold nights in my hometown, when I wrapped myself like a burrito in the blanket that my mom made by herself. That blanket had a large pocket that I can jump into use it like a sleeping bag. This might be a feature, or simply due to wear and tear. Nevertheless, I loved it.
Rain also reminds me of daydreams in highschool, near the end of the first semester, when the lunar new year was approaching. It also reminds me of daily one-and-a-half-hour-long bus trips to university. They were one-and-a-half hour of looking at rain drops chasing each other on the large window by my side.
Nostalgia.
Through this google, everything is prettier, kinder, nicer, isn't it. It's all a matter of perspective. When I was actually in highschool, rain splashed on my notes and books through broken windows. When I was in undergrad, I had to walk 15 minutes, though a muddy alley to reach the bus station, under the heavy rain that soaks through any kind of cover. I hated it. Hated it. Yet, we tend to forget all of those hardship when we look back years later. In the end, beauty and pleasure are all that we remember. Bitterness tends to fade with time, leaving the sweetness behind. So, years from today, how will you think about getting soaked in the rain? How will you think about all of the hard work you've done, all the love you've loved? Will it be bittersweet?
And why do you have to wait until years later to see the sweetness? There is no day better than today.
Because after all, it's all about perspective.
