Matt surveyed the wood carefully running his hand over the smooth surface checking to see if the plane of the table was level. "That's about as level a piece as I have ever seen. You do good work."
"Thanks. I take a great deal of pride working on such beautiful wood." The carpenter pulled off his work gloves.
"So if you're good with the salary, I think we got ourselves a deal." Matt extended his hand to seal the deal on his first official employee outside of his brothers.
The carpenter shook Matt's hand firmly. "What did you say your name was again?"
"It's Nathaniel but my friends call me Nato for short."
"Okay, Nato, it is. Work begins at sunrise tomorrow. You can bunk in the spare office in the back of the mill. It's not much but it will keep you warm."
"I don't need much. I travel light. Me and my tools."
Matt showed Nato to his new sleeping quarters. The accommodations were simple. A wood stove, a cot that doubled as a bed and meals included. Nato couldn't beat the deal except for one minor detail. Matt may not have realized who he was hiring as his new custom furniture maker but Nato was well aware that he had accepted a job that put him directly in Bam's line of fire. Nato wondered if his brother would be as accepting of him given their previous exchange at the dance.

Bam and Lila had arrived home to an empty house and a note from Rain and Bird that they had taken the kids to the mainhouse the previous night. "An empty house?" Bam was quick to recognize the opportunity as Lila had already beat him to the top of the stairs.
"And you're waiting for an invite?" Lila unzipped the back of her dress as her husband cleared the stairwell in three long strides.
"Why Mrs. Brown, can I provide a little assistance?" His hands quickly brushed her dress forward as he stood behind her trailing a line of kisses down the curve of her back. The fabric pooled around her feet as she gently stepped out of her shoes leaving her only in lingerie. Just as things were beginning to heat up, they heard Matt bellow from the lower level searching for Bam.
"Damn. He has the worst timing of anyone I have ever met." Bam scowled as he hollered through the door that he would be down shortly.
"Raincheck?" He asked walking backwards to the door. "I promise I will make it up to you in more ways than one."
Lila smarted back. "Oh, I'm holding you to that promise. You going to have to earn your keep."
"Why Mrs. Brown, I do like when your mind gets a little filthy." He took one long last look at her before disappearing down the stairs to address his brother's immediate attention.
"You have impeccable timing, bro. What's the rush that I can't get some alone time with my wife?"
"Sorry, man but duty calls. I found a carpenter for the expansion."
"Within our salary range?" Bam asked.
"I did throw in room and board. I thought he could shack up in the spare office in the back of the mill."
"Good idea. When do I get to meet this wonder boy?"
"He started this morning. Maybe after you finish playing games with Lila, you can saunter over and meet him."
"Sure. I'll be over at lunchtime. Now get the hell out of my house so I can make love to my wife."
Matt joked as he headed for the door. "Easy, boy, easy. I'm leaving. I wouldn't want to come between you and bliss."
Bam reappeared upstairs pulling off his shirt. "Now, where were we?"
Lila purred from under the covers. "I think you were going to double your pleasure with me. Lila slowly dropped the sheet from around her body as her husband removed his boots and jeans never once breaking eye contact with her. He wasted no time in taking control of the situation as he laid her back on the bed and began nibbling on her neck.
He awoke later that morning with half her body wrapped around him. He slipped out of the bed and into the shower before heading to the mill to meet Matt's newest employee. This was the first time they had offered work to someone outside the family. Matt's idea to get into customized Alaskan furniture was a smart move. Orders were flooding in and the brothers had agreed they could use the extra help.
As Bam rounded the corner to Matt's office, he heard the exchange of laughter. Matt stood up to introduce his new employee but it only took Bam a few seconds to register who it was.
"Oh, hell no!" The words left his lips with an icy tone. "You hired him."
Nato cracked a smile and extended his hand. Bam rejected it, grabbing instead Matt by the collar, shoving him out into the mill. "What the hell were you thinking? Oh right, I forgot, you never think!"
Bam paced the floor, running his hands through his hair. "That guy has a thing for my wife."
Matt shifted his weight back and forth with his hands scrunched in his pockets. "Man, he's a good carpenter and I think you're overreacting."
"Overreacting? Are you serious? Well, why don't I hunt down some of Jill's one night stands and see how you react."
"Careful, dude. That's getting personal." Matt chided back.
"Let's give him a chance. I'll lay down some ground rules and if it doesn't work out, I'll give him the boot."
Nato could hear the elevated voices of his new employers. He was expecting a reaction but not one as vehement as the one he was overhearing. Nato came out to where the brothers stood and as he began to speak, Bam cut him off. "Stay the fuck away from my wife. Got it?" It was all Bam could do to not hit him but he didn't want to end up in jail for sucker punching him. Instead, he brusquely pushed past Nato and stormed back to his house.
"Something I did?" Nato asked.
Matt shook his head. "Nah. He'll be fine. It just takes him awhile to warm up to people who have dated his wife."
