The door slammed so hard in the kitchen it startled baby Gypsy awake which immediately caught the attention of Lila.
"Jesus Christ, Bam, I just got her settled in for a nap. What's got your panties in a knot?" Lila picked up Gypsy and tried to soothe her back to sleep as Bam rambled off a line of expletives.Lily pulled at her mother's shirt. "Mommie, what's a son of a bitch?"
"Joshua Brown! Enough!" Lila's voice commanded his attention. "Lily, take your brother and go visit Aunt Jill. I'll come and get you for lunch in a little while." Lily quickly darted out of the kitchen to find her brother while Lila laid Gypsy back into her cradle in the family room.
Bam had pulled a chair from the table and sat down as Lila quickly served him a cup of tea to calm his temper. "Now who and what has riled the darkness in you today?"
Again, Bam's sentences were laced with colorful expletives as Lila reached to grab his hand. She squeezed it so tightly it forced him to speak out and draw his hand back. "Now, can you form sentences I can understand?"
Bam drew in a deep breath. "Matt hired him."
Perplexed, Lila answered back. "Him who?"
Bam didn't want to speak his name knowing it would bring tensions back from the other night. Lila asked a second time. "Who did Matt hire?"
His eyes steeled upon his wife's face. "Nato."
Lila tried her damnedest not to crack a smile. "Is that what this fuss is all about? Nato?"
"He is only here because of the work." Lila tried to reassure him.
"He is here because of you!" Bam was not amused.
"He is not here for me, Joshua. And how many times do I have to prove to you, my only interest lies in you."
Lila moved to where her husband sat and straddled his lap. She carefully removed his glasses running her fingers across his temples and into his thick curls. She placed light kisses across his wrinkled brow and whispered in his ear. "All this unnecessary drama will turn you into an old man."
Bam growled back, "That wasn't an old man in your bed this morning."
"And that's the way I want to keep it." Lila twisted a curl around her finger. "Channel that negative energy into the bedroom tonight, babe. I promise it will be worth your while. You know," she tickled his ear with her tongue, "it's been a long time since I rode this beard of yours." She tugged at his chin and watched as his mood dissipated into that cocky smirk of his.
"Now, let's forget about Nato and concentrate on some lunch?" Bam's mood seemed instantly changed by the prospect of Lila's bedroom proposal. If there was neutral ground in their relationsip, he thought it was always in the bedroom.
Lila didn't give Nato's presence a second thought. She was confident enough in her bond with her husband both inside and outside the bedroom.
