Reunion
I must’ve fallen unconscious. When I wake up, my head is heavy, my throat burns, my body aches. I start to sit up, but someone’s hands push me gently down. “Shh, Azurite you need to rest…you had a long night.” That voice…I can’t place it.
“W-what happened to me?” She laughs quietly.
“Just calm down, I’ll explain once you’re better.” I instantly start to wake myself up. I sit up and look at the figure sitting across from me. She’s sitting in a darker part of the room, but I see her shadow.
“Tell me what’s going on—who are you?!”
“It’s me, Azurite, so calm down kid.”
“M-Maddy…?” She laughs. “Maddy! It’s you! You’re alive!” I throw my arms around her neck and she starts to laugh more and hug me back. My memories of last night come into my mind and all of the laughter stops.
“Maddy, what happened last night? Wait…why are you helping me?”
“Ha…Azurite just because I was angry with you doesn’t mean I want you dead. You’re my best friend.”
“What happened last night?"
“Well you obviously know, but after a couple hours they all just…left… we don’t know why. We thought they were gonna kill us all. I got away and snuck out here. I started feeling guilty about the way I treated you and went back to look for you. I found you lying in…a pool of b-blood downtown…Everything has been quiet since.”
“W-where’s Michael?”
“Azurite, I don’t think you’re ready—“
“JUST TELL ME WHERE HE IS!”
“A couple people saw those guards taking him away…back to the city.”
“No…”
“Azurite calm—“
“No!” I start taking anything I can reach and breaking it into a million pieces. Tears flow down my cheeks, the salt burning the scar on my cheek. I fall on my knees and Maddy puts her arm around me, calming me back down.
“I have a plan.”
“What do you mean?”
“We’re going to save him.”
