Meeting Madison

It feels like hours before we reach her cell. Millions of thoughts run through my head. When I get there, what will she say? What will she do? What will she think of my new appearance? Am I even going to be able to stand the sight of her non-Servie, weakling little face? Will she be able to look at my hard, serious, dangerously, intimidating beautiful face? Will she run? Will she stay and ignore me? Will I ignore her? I don’t know the answer to any of these. My hands start to sweat and my Servie-heart beats ten times a second in my chest. Finally we get nearer to it—cell 85, 86…87. I freeze, but Calix unbolts the door and almost pushes me in, promising that he’ll keep an eye on me through the glass. As soon as I step in she hears me, and turns around. “You…you came!”

          “It’s not like I wanted to…”

“But you did,” she smiles a non-Servie, smile, filled with average, rounded teeth, “well come over here so I can get a look at you. I didn’t really get a good look at you the other night. You sound…different.”

          “I am different.”

“Oh please, you’re Azurite; you can’t change that much in a month.” She laughs at the thought.

“Oh, trust me, I can. Now brace yourself, Madison. I know how fragile your kind can be.”

“What do you mean, ‘my kind’?” I step closer, coming into her view. I watch her eyes grow bigger, her mouth pop open, and can even hear her heart beating faster as she backs away from me. “Dear god…what-WHAT DID THEY DO TO YOU?!” she grabs my arm but I shake her off.

“DON’T TOUCH ME!” She falls on the ground, but gets back up seconds after.

          “Look at you…you’re so…”

          “Perfect, new, stable…?”

“Disturbing...” She looks closer at my new face.

“I’m a Special Service now, Madison.”

“Your teeth, your eyes, your body, your brain, did they leave anything left of you?”

“Ha, this is me, idiot, why can’t you non-Servies see that?!” I roll my eyes, “I like the way I am, now. Everything’s so much clearer! I can finally know what’s right and wrong! Michael, tricking me, making me think I was important to him!? It was just a stupid game to him, and I was just a piece. And YOU, making me break into hospitals, taking me to that damn Hideout in the first place!”

“Oh please, as much as you may think, this is NOT, you. If Michael were here he wouldn’t agree—“

“Yeah well he’s not, Madison, deal with it. He was just a stupid boy trying to live a life that’s unnatural. He had to go. He was ruining our way of life.”

“No, Azurite, he was saving it. Don’t you remember how happy you were—“

“I remember everything fine, Madison. They didn’t touch my memories. I remember you saving me; I remember everything with Michael, the Hideout, everything’s in here.”

“Then why don’t you want to come back?”

“ARE ALL OF YOU NON-SERVIES COMPLETE AIR HEADS?! I told you! I like—no, I love the way I am! The world I live in is perfect! YOU’RE the idiot for not joining ME!” I start to walk out of the room, the sensors in my skin going out of control from the anger in me, all of my senses going wild from the sensors. I can hear, see, smell, and even taste everything in the air around me now.

          “Azurite, wait!”

“WHAT DO YOU WANT NOW, MADISON!?” I switch my eyes to a luminescent bright green.

          “Will you come back?”

“What the hell are you talking about?”

“Are you going to-to visit me again?”

“What do you think?” I roll my eyes and walk back out.
