A month had passed by. It would be wrong to say that Ali hadn't changed because he did. He was a lot quieter now. And sometimes I witnessed him crying on the praying mat at night. Sometimes he didnt come home, working until late and on some days he would come home late over all.
I just felt all alone. This house. The house that had become my home was empty. Where once laughter was heard, quiet screams dwelled there.
Sometimes I felt like I was screaming quietly. The agony of being alone. It was a suffering. But I was patiently waiting for Ali; in hopes that he would return back with a smile on his face for my sake, who would go to office giving me hugs that weren't void of feelings and were filled with love.~Ali's POV~
"Is there any more pending work?" I asked Adam.
"Nope. Not at all. Infact, you've done more than enough of work. And I would suggest you go home and rest."
"I'll see."
"It's an order from your secretry." He looked at me with that sheepish smile of his and laughed at his own lame attempt of a joke.
"Yes okay boss. Ill go home in a while." I replied rolling my eyes.
Adam wasn't just a secretry. Overtime, he became closer to me. He had my back when my Mom passed away and especially after that. All those times I had decided to not go home, he sent me home forcefully, giving me pep talks every now and then. He was more like the brother I never had. And I was thankful for that.
"What are you-" He started saying but his phone started ringing.
I heard him talking to the person on in a tone of worry.
"What happened?" I asked him.
"C-can we go to the hospital? Like right away. Maya got into an accident. I-I really need to go."
I just nodded at him and drove him to the hospital.
"What's wrong with her? Will She be alright?" He asked the Doctor.
"We're trying our best. Alot of blood was lost when she got here. We have operated her. You can just pray now."
And at that moment I saw him fall down on the floor. I had never seen him like this and at that moment I prayed that his wife would be alright.
He just sat there on the floor with his shoulders slumped.
I went up to him and sat down next to him.
"Remember Ali, how you said your mother was your phantom of delight, damn it Ali after my mother this woman inside fighting for life is my happiness. She is my phantom of delight. She is the twilight to my dark nights. She is the only person who I live for. And yet, and yet here I am sitting here crying to Allah for her life. I dont know why this happened to her but I want her to be alright. I can't imagine- I don't want to imagine-" He stopped talking but thw silence between us said it all. I knew what he meant and I could do nothing. I just felt helpless. But I prayed for his wife and prayed to Allah for some miracle.
We had been there for a few hours now. Minutes had turned into hours but we sat there. I didn't know how to help him. But I guess I didn't need to. Because what I heard next was unbelieveable to hear, especially for someone who the doctor's had no hope of surviving.
"Mr Adam, your wife is now out of danger. She is a very strong woman. It's a miracle to even come out alive in such situations."
When Adam heard this he went into sujood right where he was thanking Allah for making it happen. He knew this was a miracle indeed. These were prayers that the Almighty had heard and answered to. After that he thanked the doctor and looked at me. I could see the tears in his eyes. But they were of happiness. Happiness to get his love back. To be able to go home to someone who waited for him all day.
And that's when it hit me. I had left Aliya home for more than 30 hours now. I took out my phone and dialled her number but she never answered.
"Listen Ali, I think you should go home. We've been here for so many hours and Aliya must be worried about you. You've done enough for me and thanks. I don't know if I could manage without you."
"Fine but call me if you need anything. And take as many days as you need off. Oh and i'll send the driver with your car. You just relax and take care of your wife."
"Means a lot to me. Be safe and get going."
After that, I literally ran to my car. I had tried Aliya's phone several times but she wasn't answering my calls. I could tell something was wrong. My sixth sense was giving me trouble signals and all I could do was hope for the best and ignore it.
As soon as I parked my car, I ran inside the house and called Aliya. But she never responded. The house seemed so quiet and desolate. I looked for Aliya in the kitchen and the TV lounge but she wasn't there. I then went to our room and opened the door and found Aliya. Lying on the floor, unconscious.
