Chapter 6

I woke up extremely early and started to lay down the new asphalt on the pavement. I was so tired but it had to be done, the earlier I started the earlier I can get my butt to Paris. I decided to take a break and that's when I see Lacy walking up to me and she seems to have a bad hangover which of course isn't that shocking. "Hey there Emma." I smile and nod.

"How bad was it last night?" I grinned and she chuckled. "Oh boy." I laugh. "Its ok." She nods. "Thanks." I smile and nod. "Hey how about we get some lunch over at Granny's she makes a mean lasagna." I smile. "I don't think the townsfolk will be thrilled to see me, you saw how it was at the bar." She scoffs.

"Leave it to me my beautiful and naive gal." I laughed and nodded. I went to where a watering hose was at and I washed my hands. Once I finished we went on our way to granny's.

As soon as I walked in everyone got quiet. I started to feel a bit uncomfortable but Lacy grabbed my hand and walked me to a booth. That's when a young lady dressed in really provocative clothes walks up to me. "Hey there Lacy, and miss Emma, my name is Ruby what can I get ya?" I smiled. She seemed nice.

"You know the usual for me." Lacy says with a big smile. She nods as she writes it on her pad. Thats when an older lady who I assume is granny walks up to our booth. "Im sorry but we don't have what you eat here only lasagna, and maybe ribs and cornbread." I laughed. "Sounds perfect haven't had it in years." She gasps and Ruby giggles. "With iced tea right gals?" Lacy nods and ruby along with granny walk away.

"Don't mind granny she is a bit untrustworthy and especially since you sort of ruined her garden, she hates you." I nodded. "Oh." Lacy smiles, "But that doesn't mean we can't have a good time here, we all make mistakes." Thats when everyone starts to murmur about me and Im not liking it. I sort of shook my head because I was used to this, why am I letting this affect me?

Thats when I noticed that the lights were flickering on and off. "Damn lights, Ruby I told you to go check them." I over hear Granny say to Ruby in a scolding way. She scoffs. "Do I look like a freaking electrician?" I sigh and get up.

"Perhaps I can check them?" Everyone in the diner gave me a weird look. "Anyone have a tool box and perhaps some fuses?" "Killian does, Ill go get them and be back faster than you can say yee-haw." Lacy runs out the door and everyone is just sitting there staring at me.

I really hated this. Ruby then brings us the food. "You can fix this?" I nod. "I thought you were a dumb model," I over someone say in the booth next to ours. I took a deep breath and sighed. Thats when Lacy walks in with the tool box, I go and fixed the lights and everyone was in awe. "I guess you're not a dumb model after all." I nod. "I used to be an electrician before I became a model." Everyone gasped.

"Explains a lot," he says and I sigh. "Shut up Leroy, why don't you go back to your tire shop instead of judging people." Ruby says, he scoffs and continues to drink his coffee. That's when I see a man walking up to Ruby, and he smiles at her.

"Babe always looking out for people, thats why I love her." She smiles then presents him to me. "Emma this is Four, my boyfriend and the town's tattoo artist." I nod. He waves and Lacy smiles. "Hey there four." He smiles. "When you coming in to get that tattoo on your back?" Lacy smiles. "One day but not today." He laughs.

"Emma don't mind the bitter people from this town, people make mistakes and I can see you're trying hard." I smile. "Isn't he amazing?" Ruby says with a proud smile. We all nod as I take a sip of my iced tea. "Damn it Four get going, I don't want you around here." Granny screams out.

They continued to bicker but I focused on my food. Lacy smiles and and we finished our meal. That's when Ruby comes and picks up our plates. "Hey so what happened that you left your job as an electrician, well if you don't mind me asking?" I smile at Ruby and for some reason the whole diner stayed quiet.

"I loved being an electrician, but the reason why I left was because of my papa." Everyone sighed. "What happened to yur papa?" Lacy asked with a sad look on her face. "One night we were working on an electrical pole, I was on one side and he was on the other. I don't even remember how it happened because everything happened so fast."

Everyone was sitting there in shock. "A wire came undone and as I was fixing it one of the main lines got loose and it fell on my dad and he got electrocuted and his harness snapped and he fell to the ground. We were thirty feet up in the air." Everyone gasped.

"I just remember sparks flying everywhere and I screamed trying to reach out for my dad." Lacy came and hugged me. "My dad was the only family I had because my mother died after I was born." Lacy hugged me even tighter as tears began to roll down my face.

"From that day on I decided that I didn't want to be an electrician and wanted to work on something that had nothing to do with it and went for the modeling industry." Everyone gasped. "I'm sorry," Granny says as she wipes the tears from her eyes. I nod as I wipe my tears.

"I guess we judged you too quickly," Leroy says. I nod. "Its ok." "Isn't my best friend awesome?" Lacy says and I smile. That's when I hear someone scoff. It was Mrs. Banks. "She's lying, I know their type. The faster you fix the damn road the faster you can leave our town."

Everyone gasped and she walked away. I stood there in disbelief. Ever since she looked at me she's had this weird hatred towards me. Ruby laughs. "Don't mind her Emma, I think its time you officially meet everyone."

"Well you know me of course, My granny, she's in charge of Granny's Diner, Lacy of course, Leroy, owns the tire shop with his 6 brothers, Four he owns the tattoo shop and the gas station, and is the love of my life, well you've met Mrs. Banks, she's the judge and basically the mayor of this town, and Killian who owns the mechanic shop."

"Anna is in charge of the grocery shops and our little library. Aside from that everyone is basically nobodies, well except for the people down at the bar but thats a whole different world." I laughed. "I bet."

"Well welcome to Mist Haven, our little hidden gem." I smiled and nodded. After thinking things through its not so half bad being here.
