Chapter 13. Teiglach's P.O.V.

The army was on the outskirts of the Mckladdon Lands and I decided that they should formulate some sort of plan before we even began the attack on the Mckladdon clan. I could see from my vantage point that Richard Baldie, was not going to live up to the tentative bargain to be allies in this fight against Cambryn. I wondered what he was planning, and if he was really after Cambryn's life like he said.

I had learned from previous experiences in the past, to not overlook your enemies, and had placed a spy in the Baldie encampment. I was staring at Richard's back when he heard my name being whispered.

"Laird! I have discovered something very interesting from within the Mckladdon keep."

My commander, Cameron said as he nudged him in the arm. I turned to him and demanded to know what the news was about. Cameron hesitated for a brief moment before he blurted out his news to his laird. He was aware of the secret relationship his laird had with Elsa McAllen all those years ago before she was brutally murdered and he wondered if it was permissible to tell him of what he learned from his cousin who happened to live within the Mckladdon Keep.

"My cousin Balsam, who is the keeps blacksmith, related to me, that Cambryn Mckladdon brought into his home a woman who is to be the new healer, along with a young lad and a baby girl."

Taiglach rolled his eyes at the man.

"What's so interesting about a new healer?"

Cameron sighed.

"Well, Balsam has said that the 'Girl' looks a lot like Elsa and that he could see a strong resemblance to you, Laird!"

       "WHAT!!

I shouted at him, so loudly that he cringed. I knew that this outburst had drawn the attention of Richard, but I didn't care. I grabbed a hold of Cameron by the shoulder and yanked him away from our encampment and into a darkened corner and demanded again, what else he had heard from his cousin!

"Balsam said that when he saw her, he nearly fainted from the shock. Her resemblance to Elsa was staggering. He also relayed to me something, that I didn't know, Laird. It is said that before Elsa was raped and murdered, that she was heavy with child, and then before the birth of her bairn,  that the previous laird betrothed his son, Cambryn to the unborn child.

So you see, there is to be a wedding, of the lass and Cambryn Mckladdon."

I was deeply shocked and I withdrew into myself and pondered on the realization that my beloved Elsa and myself had a child together, and this child was about to marry my enemy. Oh, how he wished that Elsa was alive and that he had a few moments to ask her if the 'Girl' he heard about, was indeed his daughter. He then realized that what he was about to do. He was about to put her life in danger if he continued to be in the company of Richard's army. So looking back to his commander, he instructed him on what he wanted to be done.

"Cameron! I want you to relay a message to your cousin and ask him for an audience with Cambryn Mckladdon. I must find out if the girl is my daughter and if it is true, we must warn Cambryn about the attack that is going to happen. I must safeguard this child from Baldie's evil grasp!"

Cameron bowed his head to his laird, "as you say, Laird."

But before he made his way back into the darkness of the night, he turned back to his Laird.

"Before I go. I must ask, how am  I to gain Cambryn's trust when we have been his enemies for so long?"

I waved my hands at him and placed them on his shoulders. "You must demand that you have some urgent news for his ears only. Tell him, that I will meet him at the old McAllen ruins, and inform him, that I wish for him to bring along the healer!"

Cameron nodded, turned about and went off to do his Laird's bidding.
