Armitage Hux

I walked towards dorm G, room 47 in an orderly fashion. I had my camera hung around my neck as if the term had begun already. My stomach was lurching a bit. I had kept the same room at school since I had started four years ago. But this was the first year I would be having a roommate. I have always considered myself quite awkward, and therefore I was very nervous to experience this. But finally, my best friend, Gwendolyn, convinced me that it would be interesting, so I obliged. I neared the door to my room and hesitated. Coming from underneath the door was the sound of loud, heavy music. I braced myself and opened the door. There was a tall man about my height, maybe a bit taller laying across a bed sketching in a notebook. He was humming along to the music, which was far from anything I had ever listened to.

The bass was heavy, the lyrics were so fast and loud that it was practically screaming. I could barely understand any of the words.

"Hello." I said. The man didn't look up from his drawing. "Hello!" I said louder. The man slowly turned his head to look at me. He glanced at my face, brought his eyes down my entire body and then back up to my eyes.

"And... You are..?" He said, in a deep husky voice.

I cleared my throat. "Your roommate. Armita- umm... Just call me Hux." I stuttered as I almost told him my first name. I had hated it ever since I was young. Even Gwen didn't know my first name. Is even gone so far as to talk to every single teacher I had classes with to make sure that the name 'Armitage' didn't slip out of their mouths.

"Umm.. alright.. I'm Kylo. Kylo Ren" he held out his hand to me.

I had a small panic attack.  I gulped and grasped his hand firmly, shaking it slightly. I let go as soon as possible and discreetly slipped my hand sanitizer out of back pocket, squeezing a small amount onto my hand and rubbing it in.

It took just under 30 seconds, but the ritual was necessary. I had   learned to sanitize my hands behind my back when I was 13, after my mother died from the flu.

Kylo narrowed his eyes. "Did you just... sanitize your hands behind your back?"

I felt my face flush. "...no" I said simply, slipping the bottle back into my pocket and turning to my bed.

Kylo let out a deep, throaty chuckle.  "If you say so, Friend."

I shuddered. "We're not friends. Not yet, at least." I said, pretending to clean the lens of my camera.

Kylo smiled. "Yeah?" He asked. "What are we then?"

I glared at the tall, dark boy. "Roomates." I said. "Just roomates."
