It was just one of those days. Too much trouble at work, too many people, too much stress in general. Yes, you were the boss of your own business but the people, fuck, they pissed you off sometimes. No matter how many times you tried to explain your clients that certain things wouldn't work, they just wouldn't stop.
You were happy to finally have lunch time. Of course later than usual and later than everyone else. As a boss you just couldn't leave whenever you wanted. You checked the clock and sighed at it. Just a quick sandwich and a coffee it is then.
You rushed downstairs and to the nearest shop. Thank God the line wasn't long at it took you less than 10 minutes to get everything you needed. You payed and left as fast as possible, always thinking about all the work you still have on your desk.
Just before you reached your building, you ran into someone. Goddammit, that's what you get for being lost in thoughts. You look up at the person you covered in coffee. A cop. Out of all the people you could run into.
"Oh my God, I'm so sorry", you said, looking for a tissue to help him get cleaned up.
"Hey don't worry I wasn't looking were I went", he gave back and it made you look up.
Not only was he a cop, but an orc too. Seems like the universe is against you. However, you saw that he was actually smiling down at you.
"I wasn't looking either, I'm sorry, I ... let me help you", you said petting his shirt with your tissue.
You knew how embarrassing that was but you had to do something. By holding both of your hands stoped you in your movement.
"But I ...", you started.
"It's fine really, you don't even see it", he gave back.
He was right, you couldn't make out a coffee stain on his black shirt.
"I pay for the cleaning", you suggested.
"Miss, for the last time, it's nothing", he laughed.
"You really mean that, huh?"
"Of course. I'm Nick by the way."
"(Y/N)"
Both of you shook hands. And then the awkward silence arrived. Should you leave and just let him stay there? Or should you wait until he makes the next move. His ears were twitching a little which you found cute.
"I owe you. Let me buy you a coffee, please?", you said.
"I don't really have time. Need to be back at the station in ten minutes", Nick replied.
"Oh", was the only thing you said.
You looked around, blushing a little. You were making a complete fool of yourself and wanted to get to your office as soon as possible.
"Well Nick, it was nice meeting you, but I gotta go", you started and wanted to leave.
Once again Nick was holding you back by holding your hand. You turned around to look at him, his eyes trying to read your face. Were you angry, sad, scared? He didn't want to scare you at all and by holding you back he really stepped into your privacy.
"If you want to", he said and got his wallet out, "here is my number. I have the weekend off, so like I said if you really want to invite me for a coffee, you can."
He handed you his card and smiled again. You couldn't help but smile as well.
"I'll certainly call you, Nick", you said.
His ears were twitching again.
"Good ... that's good. Normally people don't want to hang out with me", he sighed.
"Fuck them. I'll call you, promised. But now I really need to get back to work."
He grinned and your reaction and then said his goodbyes. You couldn't wait to call him and meet him again. Since like this day wasn't so bad at all.
