I paced the length of my cage, I couldn’t believe what had happened though but I can’t say it’s the first time.
Dirt filled her nose and the sound of the wind rustling the leaves caught her attention. Her body slumped as she collapsed against the side of the pit. She was stuck here until Ally came for her. She prayed she could hear her pleading howls, if not, she was doomed.
She twiddled with her thumbs for a while, keeping herself occupied. It wasn’t long before Ally’s head popped over the top of the pit. A grin spread across her face and Ally matched it. She lowered her hand and she took it with a running leap. Ally’s hand slipped and she was thrown onto her arse, brilliant. Ally shook her head at the attempt. They tried again a couple more times and each time she became dirtier and dirtier. Eventually, Ally disappeared and then appeared again with a rather large stick, this might actually work.
Her grip was firm on the trunk as she hauled her up. They collapsed on the ground and entered a laughing fit.
A smile tugged at the corners of my lips as the memory replayed in my head. I heard Devon struggling against the bars and a soft muffled cry. My attention turned to the cage near to my own. My eyes found a mass of blankets in the cage next to me. I took a step forward towards the edge of the cage. A small head popped up and met my gaze. She bounded towards the edge of her own cage. I was met by Maisie and her tear streaked cheeks. My heart felt like it might break at the sight of her.
“Where’s mommy?” She asked in a small, almost broken voice.
“I don’t know,” I replied, regretting my words.
“Ella! Devon!” Megan’s human voice called.
“Over here?” Devon called.
A thought dawned on me.
“Ally!” I called desperately.
A muffled groan reached my ears.
“Mommy?” Maisie’s hopeless voice drifted through the dimly hit area.
“I’m here baby. It’s everyone okay?” Wendy’s voice sent a tremor of relief through me, although it was Devon who sounded the most relieved.
“Mom! Mom! Are you okay?”
“Don’t worry about me. Is anyone missing?”
“No mom,” Devon suddenly turned his glare on Ally, “Ally! What the hell have you done?”
Ally paced under Devon’s glare, “It wasn’t me! They-“
“They put a chip on the back of her neck to lead you here, Devon. It wasn’t her fault!” Wendy said.
Everyone went silent. It dragged out and began to make me want to pace again.
“We have to figure out a way to escape,” Megan said.
“I don’t suppose you’ve seen any more mission impossible films that come help us, have you Ally?” Devon said bitterly.
“You think I wanted this to happen!” Ally suddenly barked out at Devon.
By the look on everyone’s face said that I wasn’t the only one surprised in the sudden outburst. Ally wasn’t an Alpha, or even a beta, she’s just a middle-ranking huntress. I was higher ranked then Ally in our old pack but in Wendy’s small pack, I’m a Beta but Ally has stayed them same. Wolfy is an Omega, Maisie and Megan were a similar level to Ally, so she shouldn’t be shouting at Devon. Something inside her just, snapped.
“It’s not my fault they put this thing in my neck! All I’ve been told since I got here is hide the wolf; I wasn’t going to charge and rip their throats out, was it?!” she was screaming by now in wolf, not human- every word was now practically a growl.
Megan had cowered and Maisie whereas everyone else just stared in bewilderment at her. I could tell she was on the verge of shifting it was like in her head she was a wolf whilst she still fought the wolf.
“Ally, I-“Devon began but shook his head and looked to his mother and Alpha.
“Feel free to shift, young one. Do not fight against the wolf any longer,” Wendy soothed.
Ally’s whole demeanour shook so she fought to control herself then suddenly exploded into her reddish-brown wolf. Ally growled and paced relentlessly then sat and howled her heart and soul. Wendy and Devon exchanged a look before shifting themselves to join Ally in song. At the sight of her Alpha changing, Maisie shifted too, and attempted to howl, but as a pup she barked more then she did howl. Megan trembled then began howling too; I could tell she would make a good wolf.
“Now now, what do have here?” a menacing voice boomed.
This could be trouble. Devon shifted a grasped the bars, an angry look on his face.
