i tuck in a piece of my blonde hair behind my ear. i look around the classroom and see everyone writing their notes down. i push my glasses up a little and look at the white board, where my english teacher, Mr. Dean, explains stanzas and verses in poetry.
this whole week, we’ve been learning about poetry and how it is written. we learned the basic literary terms like similes, metaphors, etc. i really do love english class, but poetry literally sounds like a pile of crap to me.
“okay class! so what i am going to have you do for the next three weeks is create a poem and present it.” Mr. Dean says. the class groans and i look at my teacher in horror. i absolutely hate giving speeches or even going up in front of the class. it made me feel like everyone is judging me.
"simmer down class, or i'll make this poem 3 pages long!" mr. dean scolds at us. everyone shuts his mouth and he continues.
"there is only 3 weeks until school ends and you will be seniors. so please try on this last project. you will present these in front of the whole school on the last day. this poem could be about anything, but it has to be appropriate and something you can learn from. if you don't follow those rules, you will get an F. got it?" mr.dean asks. my class and i nod.
mr. dean then instructs us to start working on our poems. i tried to work on my poem, but I couldn't think of anything to write. all i was thinking was how i am going to mess up in front of everyone. everyone will laugh at me and will make fun of me until the end of senior year.
i shake my head, trying to get rid of that thought. i turn to my left and see luke hemmings.
luke hemmings never talks, he only does when he has too. i've noticed him during lunch many times before. he sits with his only three friends. one boy has dirty blonde hair and always wears a bandana around his head, it's a really weird style. one other one changed his hair constantly. it feels like every week it's a different color. and the last boy has short brown hair. it was just luke and his friends. he only has them.
i then realize like is not writing anything. all he does is blankly stare at his non-written paper. i see his blue light eyes widen in fear. i frown when i realize why luke is acting so strange.
he too is a shy one, like me.
