Unbelievable. Her timing couldn't have been worse. Why was she waiting so late to call anyway? Baekhyun sat on a stool in the kitchen, anxiously listening in on their conversation.

"Hello? Ms. Byun?" Chanyeol spoke kindly to her, smiling at Baekhyun with a wink. His brows furrowed and he stopped leaning against the counter. "Joy?"

"Joy?" Blood rushed to Baekhyun's face and stood abruptly, wondering why in the world his baby sister was calling Chanyeol this late. Or at all.

"Why are you crying? Okay, I will, but is everything alright? Yeah, he's here." He motioned with his finger for Baekhyun to come over. He obliged, shaking a bit as he grabbed the receiver. This had to be serious.

"Joy?" He asked with a low voice. He heard crying on the other end, followed by hysterical, short intakes of breath.

"Baekkie, I'm scared. Please, come home. Mom called dad and he's on his way home from work now. Please." She spoke so fast and the breaks between sobs didn't help.

"Calm down, Joy, tell me what happened."

There was a pause, a moment of silence. Nothing but her shallow intakes of breath and the sound of Chanyeol's heart beating across from him.

"Mom caught me sneaking out with Yeri."

"Why is that so bad?" He didn't mean to sound sharp, but he hated slow burns. He was also curious as to why she was sneaking out with his sort-of ex. He knew they had grown close, especially since Yeri came over constantly, because of him. But still... sneaking out? Kind of a big deal.

"Well, she caught me after I had already gotten in her car."

"And?"

"We were kind of kissing."

"If by 'kind-of', you mean, making out, then what the f*ck, Joy? How could you be so careless? Please tell me it wasn't in the driveway-"

"It was, alright? Stop chastising me! It's all I've gotten from mom since she saw us. She's threatening to call Yeri's dad but I won't give her the digits."

"Jeez-Joy, listen. I'm kind of in the middle of something right now, let me grab my things and I'll come over, okay?"

"Baek, please, hurry." He heard the true terror in her plea. Their father had a temper, a really bad one. Baekhyun had been in his line of fire before, so much so that he suffered a lot to stay under the radar ever since their last argument. But he wouldn't let him bully Joy for a stupid mistake. One that she was allowed to make. Maybe not the sneaking out, but still. Baekhyun felt pity for her, knowing damn well he was in no position to judge, hell, he could relate.

"I'll hurry. Hey, breathe. I'll make sure he doesn't get too mad. Trust me, okay? Love you." He waited for her weak 'love you' back, before ending the call himself, brushing his arm against Chanyeol's. He wanted to fling the phone across the room. All this time, it'd been Joy. He felt like he'd been played, not that he felt hurt from it, but more defensive. How could Yeri do this? The worry caused him to run his fingers endlessly through his hair. "This is so so bad." He walked away from Chanyeol, who pushed himself off of the counter and followed the pacing boy with worried eyes.

"Baekhyun?" Chanyeol's soft deep voice called him out of his state of panic. He looked at him with wide eyes that were softened by furrowed brows. "Is everything okay?"

"It will be. Just-" my sister just got caught in the most incriminating way possible-oh, with my EX- "Joy needs me right now. I'm sorry."

"No, no." Chanyeol unfolded his arms and ran his hands over Baekhyun's stiffened arms, smiling at him reassuringly. "There's no need to apologize to me. I understand. Family is the most important."
