On their second day of traveling, the carriage had stopped abruptly.
Seungcheol narrowed his eyes, wondering what was happening outside. He heard three short taps on the carriage, Seungcheol gently positioning the prince so that he was still resting comfortably. Those taps were a signal for Seungcheol, something suspicious was happening outside. One tap was for a normal stop, two taps was for an accident, and three taps were for potential danger. Potential danger being bandits or assassins.
They've probably been noticed by one of their camps because of the royal sigil on the carriage.
Seungcheol exits the carriage to see four men on their horses, weapons ready as they circled the carriage. Seungcheol sighs, looking bored as he unsheathed his sword. One man holding an axe charged at him, along with one holding a sword.
"I've been awake for two days, you know?" Seungcheol breathes out cooly as he thrusts his sword into the axe man's chest, dodging the swordsman's swing with ducking, pulling out his sword and swiftly slicing the swordsman's head clean off.
He heard a soft whistle and an arrow was able to graze his ear before he completely dodged it. One man had gotten off his horse to aim at Seungcheol from a far. How annoying.
"I'm too tired to be doing this." Seungcheol easily dodges the arrows as he gets closer to the bandit with a shield and short-sword. Both men were obviously focused on the knight, so he used it to his advantage. Seungcheol had little difficulty with the other man's large defense and with the farther man's arrows, but was able to tire the closer one out, slicing off the man's arm clean.
"But I need my prince to rest easy, so this will have to happen, sorry." Seungcheol approached the archer, one arrow almost able to get him. Almost. Seungcheol knocked his weapons away with a smile before he ends it fast, stabbing his sword into the man's head.
The coachman hands Seungcheol a towel and the knight takes it, wiping off the blood from his skin and sword. It was much harder to remove from his clothing; it would probably stain. "We are close to an inn, right? We should stop by for the night, so that you and the prince can rest." The coachman nods.
Seungcheol enters the carriage and it gets moving in no time. Seungcheol changes the prince's position so that he is once more the prince's pillow. Jeonghan stirs, "Hm? What happened, Choi?" He mumbles, half-asleep. Seungcheol hums, "There was a little debris on the road, so I had to take care of it for a small while. Go back to sleep, your highness, we will reach an inn soon." Jeonghan nods, relaxing once more.
Seungcheol looked at the younger man with a fond smile before looking away, suppressing a chuckle.
The prince was so precious when he was tired.
Seungcheol was not allowed to be tired, though. He would stay awake for years just so that he could keep the man resting on his shoulder safe.
It was his duty as a knight.
