The next morning I wake up to the sound of Liam's voice. It sounds so far away that it feels like I am still dreaming. I peek one eye open and see him standing by my nightstand. Shocked and embarrassed, I pull the covers over my face and hope he wasn't watching me sleep. He is absolutely not allowed to see my morning look this early in the relationship.
"What are you doing?" I ask him, completely freaked out and he starts laughing.
"I'm taking you out for breakfast, I thought I'd surprise you!"
I keep the covers over my face and joke, "Well you achieved that!" He tugs at the comforter trying to get a glimpse of my morning look.
"What are you doing?" He asks, as he tries to yank the blanket away again. I'm mortified that he's standing here in my room looking perfect while I'm wearing sweatpants and a tank top. I'm also not wearing a bra and I have pieces of mud from my facemask still in my hairline.
"Oh don't be such a girl," he says as he stops tugging at the covers, "Seeing you in your pajamas isn't going to make me think less of you." I hear his feet moving across the carpet.
"Can you just give me a few minutes to get myself together?" I ask through the covers and my morning breath hits the tip of my nose, which makes me gag. Liam starts laughing.
"Unless you want me in your head, I suggest you get out of mine," I say with attitude.
"Ellie come on, I can't imagine you look that much different now than when you spend hours on your hair."
"You'd be amazed at the transformation girls go through in the morning." I'm not ready when he flings the covers off of me so I have no chance to grab them before they hit the ground. I sit up against the pillows while my hands tug my shirt down to make sure I am all covered. I am now glad that my mom braided my hair before starting the mask last night. I tug at the end of my braid and glare at him.
"How did you even get in here?" I ask all flustered.
"Your mom let me in," he proudly answers with a wry grin, just oh-so amused by all this.
"That's surprising, my mom doesn't like boys in my room," I tell him as I finally leap out of bed. I cringe when I catch my reflection in my mirror. My hair is still braided but frizz covers my head. I have faint mascara stains and my lips are extremely dry. I am beyond mortified.
"You look fine!" Liam says again, trying to express how little he cares if I have makeup on or not. "I told your mom I was surprising you. She wanted to be the one to come up and get you, but I distracted her by asking who her interior decorator was. Because you know, I guess we don't have one. But your mom's downstairs now getting me a list of her favorites," he informs me with a smirk. I shake my head and start grabbing clothes out of my closet.
"Wow, you think quick on your feet. That was actually a logical question to ask her considering all of your unpacked boxes," I say with a raised eyebrow. "Because you know, most people don't like having a maze of boxes covering their house. And that interior design is my mother's weakness."
I shimmy past him and lock myself in my bathroom. I shower in record time having to shower cap my hair. I undo the braid and spray some gel into my hair to create big waves. I throw on jean shorts and a t-shirt and quickly apply some eyeliner and mascara.
"Almost ready?" Liam yells through the door when my mouth is full of toothpaste so I mumble, "Mmmhmm." I am definitely going for the natural look today because I obviously don't have time for any other look. I swing the door open and Liam has put my bed back together and has taken the liberty of removing all of Derek's pictures from my wall.
