I'm Tired

The world was bland for a few days in the house. No one ever saw Jess, Benny was distant, the others were the same. Mike had only been there for two days, and he's already affected everyone there. Most of them never really knew him too well. But, on the surface, he seemed cool. Every now and again someone would come in to check on him, but one never left. Jess sat on a chair besides Mike's bed. She would barely eat, and when someone would visit she would never say a word. Jess just sat and stared at Mike wondering why he took a bullet for someone that hates him. Mike was laid down on the bed unmoving, barely breathing, and his pulse was faint. He should be dead.
Jess stared at Mike, and she slowly looked down at his arms. She could see the scars peeking out from underneath his long sleeved shirt. Jess gently reached out and pulled his sleeve up. The word failure was carved deeply into his skin, she then reached over and pulled up the other showing the word mistake carved into it. Jess looked at the scars, and then looked at her own. Cuts lined her body, her skin was pale, her eyelids were missing. Most of these came from being tortured and finally burned. Then a rustling noise came from Mike's bed. His breathing picked up and his heart beat loudly. His eyes slowly opened.
Mike's POV
My eyes slowly opened. My vision was blurry and I could barely make out a figure sitting next to me. I look around my empty room, the closet that way in the corner of my room finally had some clothes inside of it. My vision slowly cleared and I finally see who the figure is. Jess looked down at the scars on my right and left arms. Her finger lightly traces the scars. "...Hi," Jess looked up at me and saw my eyes open. I saw small tears form in the corner of her eyes. Her hands ball up into a fist, and she hits me with all of her force. Jess hit me so hard I fell off the bed. I landed on the ground and grunted grabbing my stomach in pain. I take my hand away and see the bandages that covers my bullet hole. I attempt to stand up, but ultimately fell back to the ground. I heard a loud gasp behind me, and was suddenly pulled up off the ground. I looked into Jess's brown eyes. They were filled with... tears? Her arms reached around my neck and pulled me into a hug. "Why?" Jess asks. All the words I can muster up are, "I'll tell you later." My voice was broken, and in a light whisper. Jess slowly laid me back onto the bed. She turned and left me alone.
Seconds later everyone came into my room. They look at me, wondering how I'm alive. "Good morning Mike." Slenda says. I chuckle at her calming voice, "How long was I out for?" Slenda quickly responded saying, "A week." I, also, started wondering how I am alive. "Mike. You're not human." Slenda says. My eyes slowly glanced up at Slenda's mask. "What?" Everyone else was surprised as she says, "When Jess led me to you I noticed something weird. You wound was partially healed, and you should've bleed out. But here you are talking to us. You're a dead man." I look at where he eyes should be and say, "Oh..." She breathes in heavily and says, "The weird thing is, I have no clue what you are. You could be one of us, a demon, an angel, or possibly a very lucky kid born with the extraordinary ability to heal quickly." I look down at my bandages and stare at them for a minute. "I'm glad you're alive Mike." Jackie says behind everyone else. All of their heads nod and I say, "Me too." One by one they all left. But one stayed behind. "Why?" Jess says while staring at me. "You have people that care for you. If you went missing all hell would break loose, I'd be yelled at for letting you die, and possibly killed. So I guess I figured no one would care if I'm dead. And because I'd take a bullet for on of my friends, and know it was worth saving them." Jess looks at me one last time and leaves me with my thoughts.
