Macy, Jason and I were still on the road. It was deserted now so we didn’t have to worry about traffic.

Macy and Jason were happily talking about some new episode in “Orange is the new black” while I was still thinking about what Alex had said over the phone. ‘I have enough money, so I don’t need more’. It’s just the way he said it, he sounded over confident like he had something to hide. I shook that thought and was brought back to reality when suddenly my name was mentioned.

 “Huh?” I replied dumbly.

Jason just chuckled. “We’ve been calling your name for the past 2 minutes.”

I looked at Macy who was smothering her laughter with her hand. I had glared at her and turned back around in my seat to look at the road.

 “Oh,” was my brilliant response.

 “Charlotte what’s wrong?” Jason asked.

 “Nothing, i’m perfectly fine.”

I knew Macy had sensed deception in my voice which was why I didn’t turn around when she called my name.

 “Charlotte Rebecca!” Macy yelled.

“Don’t say my middle name ever again, it’s disgusting,” I scrunched up my nose.

 “I think it’s pretty cute,”Jason chuckled.

I looked at him with a ‘Are you kidding me?’ look and he had just laughed at me and tapped my nose. I pouted at him and he focused his attention back at the road, but not before showing a little smile.

“Okay enough flirting,” Macy announced, “But seriously Char, what’s wrong?”

“I don’t believe Alex. Actually, I didn’t believe a single word he said,” I sighed.

“Why not? He wouldn’t lie Charlotte,” Macy countered.

“Macy,” I sighed, “You don’t know that!” I said exasperated.

“Yes I do Char!” she yelled, “We connected. Why would he lie to my bestfriend?”

“Macy, he lied. Why would I lie to my bestfriend? I have nothing to lie to you about,” I stated, “He is after the money. Him saying that he didn’t want more raised a BIG red flag. If you couldn’t sense deception in his voice when he said that, then you are utterly stupid.”

 “Uh, Guys?” Jason tried.

“I’m stupid? You’re the one who didn’t call her mother! You’re the one who freaked and dragged me and Jason away from home to protect you when you could’ve gone by yourself. You’re the one who hasn’t passed Spanish 2 since the 8th grade!”

 “Guys?” Jason repeated.

“You know why I couldn’t! I’m not fluent like you are. When I had a tutor it didn’t work out,” I glared at her through the mirror, “So don’t you dare judge me.”

“I’m not judging you. You’re judging Alex and I’m not okay with that.” she replied.

“You’re acting like he’s your boyfriend. We both know that he isn’t. Sure he may’ve payed you a little attention to you at the party but that doesn’t mean he wasn’t after other girls too!” I yelled at her.
