A/N: This chapter is dedicated to @benparish for the amazing cover to the side. Thanks! Enjoy Chapter 10.
We were heading out the elevator. Macy walked ahead with a look I couldn’t decipher on her face. Jason and I had been walking next to each other with his hand around my shoulder. I didn’t mind but I didn’t know where I relationship stood either.
“Char?”
“Yeah,” I sighed.
“Are you alright?” he asked.
“No, not really,” I answered truthfully.
“I know what Macy did was wrong but-”
I held up my hand to prevent him from talking and shot him a piercing glare.
“Don’t defend her. She knew what she was doing. She also knew how I felt,” I removed his hand from my shoulder, “But it’s okay if you defend her. Just know that you lost me.”
I walked a little ways ahead of him. I didn’t cry, I didn’t even look back at him. I was too pissed that he was defending her. I looked down at my phone and saw that it was noon. I hadn’t been looking and walked right into the person I was avoiding. Macy.
“Sorry,” I tried to sidestep her.
“Charlotte, can we talk?” she asked hesitantly.
‘No’ I thought. But the word ‘Yes’ came out my mouth before I could stop it.
We had walked towards Jason’s car and waited for him to return the room keys.
“Look, I’m sorry Char,” she told me.
“I know you are,” I stared blankly at her.
She looked down guiltily. I just stared at her.
“But you don’t know-”
“Did you do this just to get Jason?” I asked her, “Because now he’s defending you.”
“No I didn’t. I saw the chemistry between you guys. I’d never Char.”
“I guess,” I turned away.
“You don’t believe me,” she said.
It wasn’t a question. It was a statement. A true statement. I didn’t believe a word she said.
“Not one bit.”
“Charlotte Johnson I said sorry. What do I have to do to get you to forgive me?”
“Tell Alex to FUCK OFF! He’s trying to find us. Find ME!” I yelled.
“But I like him Char,” she confessed.
“More than me?” I accused.
“Not at all.”
“Then telling him wouldn’t be a problem.”
She sighed and pulled out her phone. I looked into the distance while waiting for her and saw something I didn’t ever want to see.
Alex was in Iowa. Alex was right in front of me. Alex was staring right at me. Alex was smirking. At Me.
“Macy,” I started.
“What now Charlotte?”
“G-get in the c-car. Now,” I stuttered.
“Char are you-”
“Get in the car!” I whisper-yelled at her.
She gave me a look that read ‘you’ve got some explaining to do’ and got in the back seat. I pulled out my phone and was about to text Jason, but he appeared behind me.
