Chapter 4

I woke up and got ready for school.Honestly,I’m worried about today.What if my dad pulls me aside and asks if I heard their conversation?Well I guess either way, I know he’s lying. He doesn’t miss me. If he did, he’d care about me. He wouldn’t treat me like a piece of garbage.Well, I guess I should head to school. *sighs* Wish me luck.

“So today we are going to take a survey over our goals and future.So, the tests are in your folder.You may start when you’re ready.Hailey can I see you for a second?” I knew he was going to ask me that.

“What?” I asked.

“Were you,by our house last night?”

“Why?”

“Because I was talking to your mom and I saw you in the window.Was that you?”

“Yeah why?”

“Did you hear what we were talking about?”

“You mean the fact that you ‘miss me’ and you wish you never let me go?”

“Y-yes. But-”

“You think I’m going to believe that?”

“Hailey please.”

“No!After all you’ve done to me!And you think I can believe that?”

“What have I done to you?!”His anger started to grow.So has mine.

“You’re the whole reason I ran away!You’re the whole reason I don’t want you or mom in my world.You’re the whole reason for everything that happened between us.And yet,you still never apologized to me!”

“Hailey Matthews!”

“What??”

“This behavior needs to stop.Now listen to me,I am your father.I’m only doing what’s right.”

“What’s right?More like what’s wrong.You can never just be nice to me for once.You always think about yourself.If I could make one wish you know what it would be?”

“What?”

“To have a better dad.” I then walked away. I went outside to a bench and started crying. I guess maybe my dad was right.Maybe I haven’t met my world yet.

Later that night….

“Hi sweetie.How was school?” My grandma asked.

“Horrible!”

“What’s wrong?”

“Dad will never apologize for what he’s done.He’s just going to act like he did nothing.”

“Well about that…” I then saw my dad come in.Oh great.Just what I needed.

“Dad?What do you want?”

“I need to talk to you.”

“You already did.Bye now!” I said walking away.

“Hailey!” My grandma said.I couldn’t just walk away from my grandma.I walked back.

“What?” I said.

“Hailey, I-”

“I’ll leave you two alone.” My grandma said.She then walked away.

“Why are you here?”

“Hailey, your mom and I do miss you.We do want you to come home.”

“You want ME to come home?”

“Yes Hailey, I do.”

“So you treated me like a piece of trash,and now you want me to come home?”

“Hailey please come-”

“No.Just no.I’m not going to get treated any worse than I already am.”

“Hailey please we want you to-”

“J-just go.I’m not going home.”I said.Then he walked out.I’m being honest.I want to go home.I really do.But,I’m not going to get treated any worse.My dad got me to the point where I don’t want to live with him.*sighs*Let’s hope tomorrow is better.

The next day….

“Hey Hailey.”Maya said.

“Hey Maya” I said.

“How was last night?”

“Well,my dad wants me to come home.”

“Wow,what did you say?”

“I told him no.I’m not going to get treated badly even worse than I already am.”

“See that’s all you need to do.You have to stick up for what you think.Not what others think.”

“Yeah,but I do want to go home.”

“I know you do,but think about it.Who treats you better?”

“My grandma”

“See?Unless he treats you better,then you’re not going to go back.”

“I guess you’re right.”

“C’mon let’s go to class”

“Okay” Honestly,I’m scared. I don’t know what my father is going to do. Is he going to be mad at me? Or not? I guess we’ll just have to find out.

“Okay class so today we will learn about- how you-” He then sighed and walked out of class. Riley ran after him. I ran with her,just didn’t go near dad.

“Dad what’s wrong?” Riley asked.

“Riley, I just want Hailey back.”

“I know you do dad. I do too” They then hugged each other. I couldn’t take this. I ran to the bathroom.

It’s hard to see my dad and my sister like that. They actually do care. I-I don’t know what to say. I don’t know what to do.Dad then walked away. The bell rang so I decided to go over to Riley.

“Hey Riley do you want to meet at the park tonight?” I asked.

“S-sure” She then walked away. I knew she was upset.

“Hey is Riley okay?” Maya asked.

“No she’s not.”

“What happened?”

“I ruined her world.” I then walked away. Maya then came running after.

“Hailey!Hailey please tell me what’s wrong!”

“I broke my familys heart. My dad and sister were crying because of me.”

“What do you mean because of you?”

“If I didn’t leave in the first place.I wouldn’t have ruined everything for them.”

“You didn’t ruin anything Hailey!”

“Yes I did!That’s all I do!”

“No you don’t!You are meant to be in this world!You’re an amazing person Hailey,you just need to find yourself!”

“That will never happen.I’m not even meant to be a Matthew.”

“Hailey-”

“I-I just can’t Maya” I then walked away.

“Hailey,please.”

I’m not a good person. I don’t see why I’m a Matthew when I can’t even treat my family right. Hopefully seeing Riley tonight will be better. Maybe she’ll accept my apology and my mistake. But no matter what, I will always love my family. And hopefully someday, I’ll go home again.Maybe soon.
