Chapter 9

"Riley... I'm ready to come home." I said.

"Wait what? Seriously?!" Riley said.

"Are you mad?"

"N-no I'm happy! I wanted you to come home!" She said, then gave me a huge hug. "Come with me, I need to show you something."

"Okay." I said. We then walked into her room. "Nice room."

"Thanks!" She sat down in front of her windows. "Sit down." She said. I sat right next to her.

"It's so cool how you can sit right by your window."

"I know right? I call it my bay window."

"What's a bay window?"

"It's where me and someone close to me go, we talk about something major happening. Like a secret hideout, but not really secret-y since you can see it." She says. I look around her room, then hear a knock coming from the window. "Come in." Maya then enters, along with Liv.

"Hey Maya, hey Liv." I say.

"Hey." They both said.

"Um, who's Liv?" Riley asks.

"That's why I came here. Riley, Liv is my sister."

"What? How-"

"I used to live with our father. But he kept abusing me, so I ran away." Liv said.

"Wow, I'm so sorry."

"It's fine."

"Did he ever figure out that you were missing?"

"Even if he did, he wouldn't care. I'm never going back."

"Well, if you ever need someone, you can come talk to me."

"Thanks Riley."

"No problem." She says, as they give each other a hug. We hear a knock on the door. "Come in!"

"Hey Riley, did you- Hailey? What are you doing here?" My father said as he entered the room.

"Well, I decided that, I'm ready to come home."

"Wait what?"

"Is that a bad thing? Because I thought you wanted me to come home."

"I did, it's just...."

"What?" I asked.

"I-Me and your mom just missed you."

"I missed you too dad." We both hugged, and some tears came down my face.

"Hailey..."

"Yeah?"

"I just wanted to say, I'm sorry."

"For what?"

"For everything. I teared this family apart because I told you to leave. I never meant that, I-"

"Dad, it's okay. I forgive you." I said. He smiles, and gives me another hug.

"Anyways, you all need to go to bed. Don't want to be late for school tomorrow." He says, then walks to the door.

"Bye guys." Maya and Liv said.

"Bye!" Riley said.

"Bye." I said. They then went out the bay window.

"Well I'm going to bed. Goodnight Hailey." Riley said.

"Goodnight." I said. I then went to bed.

The next morning...

I wake up to the sound of laughter. I walk to the living room, seeing my younger brother Auggie watching his favorite show.

"Morning." Riley says, sitting at the table.

"Morning."

"How'd you sleep?"

"Pretty good."

"Ready for the last day of school?"

"It's the last day? Oh my gosh, I didn't even notice that!" I said. We both laughed.

"Well, it's going to be great! Now that I've got my sister with me."

"Aww, thanks Riley" I said, giving her a hug.

"No problem"

"You guys ready?" My dad asked.

"Yep" We both said. We walked to the car, and drove off to school.

At school...

"Heyyy guys!" Liv said.

"Heyy" Me and Riley said.

"Ready for the last day?"

"Of course!" Riley said.

"Definitely! Only one more class left!" I said. The bell rang, and we all walked to History.

"Welcome everyone. To your last class of the school year." Dad said.

"Yayy!" We all shouted.

"Now remember. This is your last day of middle school. Next year, you're all going to be in high school. I know, pretty frightening. But I know you all will do fine in high school. Because you all have been amazing students. And being amazing leads to a brighter future."

"Thanks Matthews. You really taught me how to become a kind, yet sort of a trouble maker, student. I can't wait to see what high school will bring me." Maya said.

"Same with me. I was nervous transferring this quarter. But, realizing how nice and amazing everyone is, helps me and my future. So thank you Matthews, for showing me that." Liv said.

"And thank you all for believing me." He says. He turns to open the door, signaling it was almost time to go.

"Wait, dad!" I say.

"Yes, Hailey?"

"Before we go, can I say something?"

"Go right ahead." I stand up and walk to the front.

"Hi, I'm Hailey. This is my sister, Riley. And this is my dad. Mr Matthews. I will admit, we didn't have a good past. But, I know we will have a great future together. Dad, when I first saw you in this class, I thought everything was going to end. I thought we were never going to be close again. But, you showed me that you were willing to bring us close again. You always were there for me when I needed it. And now, we're closer. Me, you and Riley. I'm so happy to live with you again because you changed. And I'm so happy to be a Matthew. Thanks dad, for showing me that." I say. He smiles, then walks over to the door.

"You all have showed me that you're ready for any obstacle to come your way. Thank you all for looking up to me, and letting me teach you. Have fun in high school. Don't be afraid. Make new friends. And, most importantly, be yourself." He opens the door. "Have a great summer, and future everyone!" The bell rings and we run out.

"Ready for high school?" Maya asks.

"As long as you all are." I said.
